I just received a wonderful packet of Sepp Holzer rye for completing BB20.  Thanks Paul!!!  If you want to know a bit about that, check it out Here and Here

When should I plant it?  Or if I can plant it anytime, are there some months that would be better than others?

I asked my farmer neighbor, he says to plant rye in mid to late fall.  I would allow for the climate difference between npme and you, so maybe Oct?

I learn from the mistakes of others who take my advice.

I looked into it last year & fall seems to be the time. Didn't grow for me though.

Argue for your limitations and they are yours forever.

Maybe if it was sowed earlier it could get established before the leaves fall and smother them, that's my predicament. 'Took advantage of the 3 days of balmy weather and moisture from the hurricane remnants and the rye sprouted in 24 hours and now I'm going to wait until some green shows before I grab the leaf rake.

I was waiting for 'green' to appear before raking the leaves but upon inspection I noticed  an inch or more of a purple sheath on my rye (not Holzer) so I went ahead and raked and today we had our first frost and the leaves are falling fast.
