hahaha...I've been there but not this year....

Here, we did not have dishes to wash nor did we eat too much...a four mile hike with family made the day extra special and we could do our distance thing without masks...even had a picnic with the best hiking food...cheese, crackers and dried apples....dessert was 'cranberry brie bites' so flavorful...with a sprig of fresh rosemary, cranberry sauce, brie, pecans baked in a croissant in tiny muffin tins.

The only thing I miss about the 'traditional' family meal is the left overs that would go on for days...I never get tired of turkey and cranberries
and that carcass for a two day bone broth...might have to look for a discount turkey this weekend?

Judith, that sounds like a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Our daughter spent Wednesday night and then headed off to West Texas.

It was just the two of us for supper so we had brisket, little Au gratin muffins, and little apple tarts.

I will also miss the turkey carcass for bone broth and turkey noodle soup.

That last one really got me.  The dishes!  Not..missing...that.

We worked normally yesterday, and I was unable to find a turkey that was affordable enough to even consider buying. But all these pics of people's meals are making me drool! Tomorrow I'll be making some sort of loaf and GRAVY. Maybe some stuffing too (making the bread right now). And an apple crumb pie, which is something I generally avoid, because chatting with my mother yesterday, hers looked so amazing....

We only had 3 of us together this year and I still cooked a 21 lb bird.  My son in college drove off with leftovers for him as well as to deliver to our parents and I made a large soup today from the carcass, the left over veg and some of the remaining turkey.  I'm thinking we'll manage to eat it all again this year!  (worst case I'll be freezing some in a few days if I realize I'm delusional)

Oh yeah gravy!!
I'm a gravy freestyler. Not sure, it depends on what i make, but I suspect it will involve mushrooms and leeks (i didn't get a bird so no drippings, sadly, but schmaltz will help)

I'm not a vanity license plate person but long ago I decided if I did have vanity plates they would say "GRAVY".
Not just because I adore the liquid love that is gravy, but because Life itself is Gravy.

We did an outdoor gathering with small group. During clean up, I asked what they were going to do with the carcass..they eyed me a bit funny and then donated it for broth.

So far, ive got a gallon of broth and that's after experimenting with egg drop soup by dropping farm fresh egg into a cup of hot broth.. So good..

Our daughter brought Thanksgiving Dinner so all I had to do was warm everything up.

our day after thanksgiving (black friday?) morning was spent on a hike 'shopping' for mushrooms....found some excellent 'buys'
This afternoon we are taking turns with the wheelbarrow moving our bounty of wood chips to different areas of the gardens.

It's a beautiful sunny day!

Obviously I don't get to enjoy Thanksgiving here in the UK, but I have really enjoyed reading everyone's stories about what you were doing and the funny pictures, so it was enjoyable for me in a different way! I got close to a proper Thanksgiving once, but wasn't to be in the end, maybe one day in the future.

The day after Thanksgiving I hung out with my father, which is part of what I did on Thanksgiving itself, so yeah.

You know Scott you could do your own Thanksgiving with your own family and friends if you like.  You can learn about all the recipes for the foods associated with it online and choose some to cook and try.  The point of Thanksgiving is gratitude and being with people you enjoy and sharing together.
