I suggest you get all your friends and family to help with that...  Tues currently seems to be sunny only above the cloud level.

As of 5:45 PM central time the CME has not hit yet. I'll post when it does. :D

Impact about 11:30 central time. Late and probably slow. NOAA took it off their ENLIL spiral, not something I have seen them do before, it might be very low impact, and not thrilling lights. Hard to say. But definitely slow, over 6 hours later than expected.

Go look if you are north and tell us what you see!
:D

Nope. Looks like NOAA really overpredicted that one. Solar wind will be slowly increasing today,  but it’s not likely to make pretty lights.

Well now, just took some kind of secondary impact. I'm still looking, but the aurora charts are red at this point.
Check the sky!!

Edit: looks like a coronal hole stream impact joined it. I may be wrong, but that's my guess.

A different sky weather this week.

The Geminid meteor shower - one of the most spectacular in the celestial calendar - is set to peak this weekend and astronomers say conditions could make for an especially striking show if weather permits.

And our land is still blanketed in thick cloud and heavy rain.  Alas

For some reason, i thought this meteor shower was in November.

I saw a shooting star on my way down to the shop and a pretty good aurora on my way back this evening. I do like dark skies!

January 2, 2026 about sundown in the US there's a CME impact coming, so after dinner, go out and look to see if you have lights!
Plus the moon will be full! It's the Wolf Moon, so howl at it!!  :D

7:35 PM Central   One of the trackers says the CME will hit in 10-15 minutes. Not sure how long it takes the sky to light up...
I'm full overcast, no moon or lights for me.

Sky admirers! Check the sky tonight!
Small CME but also a not big solar flare joining it. The combination gives us chances of lights in the north.

Strong flare yesterday is probably teaming up with a coronal hole stream and hitting this afternoon/evening.
If it teams up, low latitude auroras are likely.
If it doesn't, high latitudes only will see them.
Check your area this evening!

Thanks for the update. As typical, my area is in the "green", but that means a maybe, and at least the forecast is for "a few clouds" rather than socked in with rain!
Fingers crossed!

As it gets closer, things are looking good for northern ligts where I am.  fingers crossed the sky stays clear.  Northern horizon to directly up (not south like the one we had a while back).

Max between 10pm and 1am

Some glow up to about 40 degrees above the horizon.  Pink green blue ribbon ish.

Pretty but slow to undulate.  Would probably look good with long exposure on a camera.

A few hours until the eclipse here.  Sky is mostly clear with cloudlettes forming around the moon.

Eclipse time is in five minutes.

It's overcast here enough that I can't see a single star and I don't even see a blob of moonglow, so I think it's already set to our west. Good luck to those of you on the west coast of North America!

There's a combination of things hitting in the next few days: several small CME's, and a coronal hole stream. The equinox period changes the way the earth's magnetic field is reacting to the sun and traditionally makes auroras more rowdy than would be expected.

It's quite possible there will be a nice display! First impact is predicted for Wednesday night/Thursday morning, (March 18, 2026) and depending on how the rest of them are spaced, might continue for a few nights.

Check the sky tonight and tomorrow, possibly longer!

The impacts were late getting started, first one was at 9 ish Thursday night (central time) but they keep coming, and at this point (Friday night) the aurora charts are lit up. Check the sky tonight!!
