Hi y'all! First of all, yes, I know all wood burning cookstoves are gonna put off heat, BUT I am searching for a wood cookstove designed to put off as little heat as possible. You see, I live in a hot & humid climate and I have always wanted to cook on a wood stove (and I would like to go off grid solar so I would really need a stove), but all the ones I've looked at were designed to cook and heat a frigid house in North Idaho which is exactly NOT what I need. I am in South Georgia btw- if anyone has any other permaculture tips/knowledge for this area, please tell me!!

Any old beater wood stove could be wrapped with insulation, focusing heat onto the cooktop and then out through the chimney. Small stick fires would be best, to reduce the total heat produced and reduce the risk of uneven heating and warping. Don't do this with a fancy high-efficiency wood stove!

Historically, the tried-and-true solution was an outdoor kitchen with a roof and lots of ventilation, where canning and cooking were done in the warm seasons.

The Ozpig looks like a great little stove!

For cooking outdoors, I recently picked up an Alpine Chef Camp Stove from a local independent retailer. I was somewhat skeptical, and the legs weren't welded with perfect symmetry, but after a few initial burns I think I like it. It has a good heavy gauge steel, and the cook top is reinforced so hopefully it won't warp. Time will tell, but it feels right.

Hi Nellie,

To take things is a little different direction considering your location, I would consider a summer kitchen.
