This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Foraging.

For this BB, you will forage 200,000 calories from at least 10 different species!

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- Forage 200,000 calories from at least 10 sources
 - 6 species of at least 10,000 calories each
       o No more than 4 of the 6 can be animal species
       o For reference, the following have approximately 10,000 calories:
          o 14 lbs of venison
          o 17 lbs of duck
          o 15 lbs of trout
          o 42 lbs of apples
          o 100 lbs of morels
          o 30 lbs of sunchokes
          o 3 quarts of maple syrup
 - at least half of the calories need to be dried for storage that could last more than a year at room temp - possible twofer with Food Prep and Preservation
       o can include
          o charcuterie
          o smoking
 - at least 10% is canned - possible twofer with Food Prep and Preservation

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 mins):
- foraging each type of food
- show the weight of each food (on a scale) and describe the number of calories it represents
- preparing the food to be dried or canned
- dried or canned food in storage (in the pantry, on a shelf, etc.)

Clarifications:
- Apples from a neighbor don’t count here.  
- Apples from a homestead that has been abandoned for at least five years does count.  
- Apples oddly growing in a place where there has never been any cultivation counts too (probably a discarded apple core led to the tree).  
- Apples that are the result of guerilla gardening do count.

Can I start a separate food log thread for this BB so that I can document the calories as I go, similar to the log for the 800 plates of food in the Food Prep BB? I’m also wondering if the calories for this BB must come exclusively from the lists in the Sand Badge BBs or if we can branch out to a wider diversity of foraged foods for this one.

Yes, it's preferred to do a log elsewhere and just link it in this BB thread.  We definitely don't want someone posting here multiple times until they get to 200,000.  

It doesn't say they have to be from the Sand list so I think you're free to forage for whatever you want.

I started my 200,000 foraged calories journal thread today, and it has me looking closer at the requirements for documentation. As I read it, only half of the calories need to be prepared for long term storage. Many times, what I do with my foraged food is put it immediately into a meal. Would showing pictures of the foraged ingredients going into a dish count for the required documentation of preparing them for storage as long as these filled the other half of the calories that only required short term storage?

Eating stuff doesn't count as long term storage.

Sorry, let me try again. I understand the requirements for the half of the calories that need to be put into long term storage. What would I photograph for the documention requirement “preparing the food for storage” for the other 100,000 calories? Is that picture only required for the half of the calories that must be dried for storage and the 10% that need to be canned?

Ok, now I get it.  I nudged the requirements for the stored foods, hopefully that's a bit clearer.

I think the answer to your question is yes.  For food you're eating, freezing or otherwise NOT drying or canning, all you need to take is pics of harvesting it and pics of it on a scale to prove the weight.

If you're harvesting dandelion greens every day for a salad, this will be a real challenge.  How do you prove you collected X pounds of greens if you don't weigh each collection.  Or weigh one and show pics of the 50 other times you harvested a similar amount.  

This BB seems to be more oriented at collecting a bucket of hazelnuts, a deer, a bag full of plums or other big hauls.
