Make a candle reflector - PEA BB metalworking.sand.pop.reflector

I couldn’t find any examples online - one that only used one can and had a handle made from the can. I went to bed last night thinking of how to solve this problem and woke up with an idea. The base of the can is the logical place for a candle - it’s round and stiff and has an indentation, but the indentation is on the bottom.

Here’s what I started with



I decided to use the indentation for the candle and take the top off the can



I would cut a strip for the handle which need to be ridged. I achieved this by bending in the outer 1mm down each side and then scoring down the middle with a ball point pen and bending into a triangle. Here’s the handle halfway through the process described



I cut of the rest of the sides which I would use for a reflector



I then polished with vinegar



The reflector need to be securely fitted around the candle. Here’s the solution followed by the steps I took



I cut the crenelations in the reflector as shown above, and then marked inside the lip of the candle holder. I drilled the can to mark the end pints of the slots. I had to do this because I wanted to use my Dremel to cut the base. The metal here is thicker and stronger than the side walls.





I finished the slots with a knife



And then sanded down the base with 320 grit paper and fitted as shown above. I bent the crenelations to secure the reflector
