Wanted to make a childhood favorite: honey drop cookies from Joy of Cooking. The newer copy I have now doesn’t have it.

Do you have the recipe to share ?

TIA!

mine only seems to have sugar drop cookies and chocolate chip.

Was there one for honey specifically?

Hi Jennie;
I have a 1964 copy of The Joy of Cooking.
I find a recipe for German Honey drop cookies

Here it is . Makes 200 2.5" drop cookies
cut into small pieces and combine 3 oz each of citron, candied orange peel and candied lemon peel.
Add) 1 cup chopped blanched almonds
1 tea spoon grated lemon rind
3 tablespoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon cloves
3 1/3 cup confectioners sugar
Beat until light and add
6 eggs
1/4 cup orange juice
bring to boiling point and cool until lukewarm
1 pint honey
2 tablespoons hot water
stir this into the egg mixture with:
5 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 tablespoon soda ?
cover the dough and let stand for 12 hrs or more... (wow)
Preheat oven to 350 F
drop batter from spoon ,well apart on greased baking sheet. Bake until light brown
When cool decorate with Lemon glaze (page 682) or decorate before baking with blanched almonds!

I hope this is the one you are looking for !  If you need the lemon glaze recipe just ask!

@Thomas - I'm glad I'm not the only one with some *really* old books!

I actually mostly cook the old recipes because I find they use less sugar. Later today I'm thinking I'll make "Old Fashioned Peperkaker" as gingerbread men. I'm feeling creative, so I'd like to play and decorate them.

I'm glad your question was answered... I was going to grab my copies and start digging!  Joy of Cooking is an all time favorite (along with Bull Cook).  The author's daughter married into the Anheuser-Bush family.  She was a summer neighbor when I was a kid in the mountains of NC.  She was a wonderful lady and a huge influence on my mom and me.  Of course, she was very wealthy, but totally down to earth.  My family had the local grocery store, so it was a natural that a foodie would become a family friend... well, half family friend.  She hated my dad... he really was a jerk... and she never held her tongue.  Mrs. Rombauer never needed "women's lib"!!!

I have a lot of very old cookbooks, but had “upgraded” my joy of cooking. Obviously, that was a mistake!!

Thank you!!!

I had to check mine 'just because'.  The recipe is there!
...and my copy is from 1975 which totally surprised me...my brother gave it to me in the nineties and it looked brand new then.
I just never checked the date.
It is the same year my guy and I got married so I suppose we'll have to hang on to it

So glad to know I'm not the only cookbook collecter/keeper. It was given to me along with many other dusty old books that was no longer wanted. It was the best surprise ever!! My book is dated 1951. I am very careful when using it. Last year I looked for certain recipes, but could not find them anywhere except in my Joy of Cooking book. So I made different candies & cookies from the book. If anyone needs a recipe,  I'm glad to help if I can.
