I just got the green light to build my first RHM, so spent most of the morning watching videos explaining everything to my wife. One thing I notice is lots of designs start with a digital plan. I’d like to do this to make sure all the numbers work but more importantly for cost estimation and then shopping. What do people use for designing RHM? If there’s a relatively easy and not too expensive option, then I’ll go down that road. Otherwise, I’ll be digging out my old draftsman tools from 20 years ago.

Oh My Goodness Ed;
A digital plan?   I think only plans for sale start digital,  the rest of us use a legal pad and a pencil...
I'm sorry for teasing you Ed, everyone has a different way of thinking things thru.
I'm sure there is a good program to use.  I have seen SketchUp mentioned quite often.

Very Very cool, that the boss gave you the green light on building an RMH!
What style are you thinking?
What building materials are you considering using?
We want to know all about it!
So in between ALL your other projects and while building your Dragon, we expect prompt detailed posts covering everything...
You didn't intend to sleep, did you?

All teasing aside, Congratulations on becoming an apprentice rocket scientist!
Your lab coat and pocket protector will arrive some time or another...

I use blender. It’s open source and in my experience the best one as it not only has cad tools but also allows very nice renders, animation, lightning, and everything in between. I’m also using the unreal engine to process the 3d models in environments. There are a bunch of free tutorials online too.

For 2D planning I use procreate.

Cheers Andrés - I’ve download but that’s as far as I’ve got, resorting to paper and pencil for now. I once used Autocad daily but that was 25 years ago when I was a Civil Engineer. I’ve also spent 15 years using photoshop as an avid photographer. So I think I can learn to use blender but on first inspection it looks a little intimidating. I’ll run through some tutorials and see how I get on.

Yay! Artstation is a great place for really good tutorials. It used to be pricy but Epic Games bought it and made all the learning content free: https://www.artstation.com/learning/search?q=Blender
