So, we are a secular family of four.  Three adults and one teen in northeast Texas.  We want to live self sufficiently and give back to the community through food sharing, community gardening, and any other ways we can think of.  We have a small amount of money saved and are in the process of saving more. I'm curious if anyone would like to share ideas, advice, opportunities with us.
We are not against joining an intentional community but prefer a buy in scenario over renting.
I have experience as a Minnesota licensed CNA and specialized in memory care.  We believe in multi generational households and I believe I could be an asset to communities with aging members. I have 20 years of child raising experience, and have had a large hand in running a 12 bedroom lodge.
My husband is a great builder, in my humble opinion.  He has experience in plumbing, carpentry, building various structures...jack of all trades type.  We both have experience with landscaping, fence clearing, and property caretaking.  We also spent two years as camp hosts at Caddo Lake State Park.

Welcome to permies, I'm hoping that you can connect with the right community to buy into or the right cofounders to collectively buy land and start something new.  TX isn't known for having lots of intentional communities, but there are a few.  I know there's an agrihood, each house comes with a quarter acre lot to grow one's own food etc., that is forming right now, but TX is a huge state and I don't recall where.  Also consider looking in the communities directory on ic.org, they also have a forum for connecting.

Welcome to Permies, Meggiemay. What a unique name! So, it looks like you're in "the pines" and I love that part of the state. It's so different from the other bioregions in Texas. Your background in memory care as a licensed HCP could make you a valuable asset to any IC or bartering co-op with elderly members whom the community wants to keep out of nursing home scenarios. I hope you find what you're looking for. I'm sure more will chime in, possibly with opportunities...

I don't know if this reply button was the one I wanted...um I sent the message things to you both because imy ew to this whole forum thing and don't really know what I'm doing lol.  It looks so easy when I read forum post to things I Google and then I finally join one and I'm like...how do I reply to the individual...oh no...I have to do the dm thingy...ok, social anxiety step back I'm going to make contact.

But yeah, I sent you both private messages things and thank you for replying here!  I appreciate the connection!

You can either hit the "quote" button within the thread and it'll show the message string that you're responding to. Another way is to click on the "post reply" button up at the top of the threads and that will only record your response, with no quote from the person you're responding to. That way, everyone can read what you posted and it helps to build community.

Sending a purple moosage (thanks, I got it!) is, as you've found out, Permies's version of an DM.

You're doing it just fine...

Hi MeggyMae.  I am a homesteading Realtor.  At a recent Exit and Build Land Summit held in Bastrop TX  I spoke a little bit about homesteading and real estate.  I also helped with a breakout session for people with homesteads/intentional communities looking for help and vice versa.  People got up and told a little about their situation.  I do have a list of who was looking for what and where.  Reach out to me and let me know your situation and maybe I can help you connect.
