I just thought I'd post an alert that apparently Joann isn't going to come out of their current financial troubles. They are closing all stores and going out of business. https://www.joannrestructuring.com/

That's a shame, but it's also worth thinking about their going out of business sales if you have a Joann near you.

They're the only inexpensive fabric store within a couple-hour drive so our buying habits will have to change. Probably this mean more notions from Amazon and more upscale fabric from quilt-shops.

i was just reading about this. It is (was) a guaranteed stop when I went up to the US. The last few times the deals haven't been so great, and the stores were a bit demolished (to be fair, that seems to be the case everywhere), but it was still the hands-down place for fabric, especially when you want to get your hands on it before buying. What a loss.

Yup. Sadly, our local one closed, in '24. Now, if I want to go to one, (at least until it closes, too), I have to drive about 1.75hrs. I think a lot of the problem was instead of focusing on & expanding the textiles, the way they began, they decided to try to compete with Michael's & Hobby Lobby, each of which has a very limited selection of textiles.

Even more sadly, for me, the other closest fabric shop - a mom & pop store (which is what I prefer to support), about 30 minutes away, closed in '23. At this rate, by the middle of this year, my only reasonable option (other than what little is offered by Hobby Lobby & Michael's) will be to buy online, and have it shipped. 🥺

Well, good news for my closet, tho! I visited JoAnns that's closest to me (70 miles!) And brought home 40% marked down cotton thread of many colors, and three fabrics to play with, along with several notions for projects I'm planning.

I'll visit again next week to see if the cotton canvas is any cheaper! (32$ per yard x 40% discount is still to expensive!)

Online sales are no longer available so see your local Joann Fabrics store for some great deals!

This is scary.  We have very few smaller fabric shops left here, mostly quilting and one very old fabric shop that is all the way downtown.  Most fabric is sold at the giant box store.

Exactly my thought. I'd much rather support a local, small business, as well as being able to see and touch the fabric, in person, ensure the material content, and get the mental/emotional 'feel' for the fabric, before I lay down my limited funds.
