So i have a youtube channel which i do some videos on my critters. I have done one or two videos on when i started spinning with a hand made drop spindle.

I was wondering if yall would like to see some how-to videos on spinning? This would be sheep(/animal) to yarn, and showing some knitted/etc items.
And i can do some stuff on how to start out and some ways to make some of your own tools.

They may not be like super amazing but if yall would be interested i would start working on makin them. And if you put questions here i could answer/explain in the video(s).

I think this is a great idea...especially a 'sheep to shawl' kind of thing. Might even get me to get out my old drop spindles and play some

Drop spindles are the perfect way for someone to get started spinning and if you can also show how make some tools that would be a bonus. And this fits perfectly in this new forum!

Well, how about 'what fleece would be easiest to spin for beginners?' Maybe what breed of sheep or other fiber animal? how to prepare the fibers? I have a feeling you will cover it all by just doing what you do

Seems to me that It might be good to show the steps that get you from wool on a sheep to roving ready to spin.
So many "how-tos" start with roving that is already cleaned and carded, and leave out he part about how it got to that point.
And with a permies audience, I expect there to be quite a few who are looking at their fiber animal and wanting to know how to get from there, to here.

Kadence, In a past life i worked in a training department. One of the sayings we used was "Teach as if you are teaching the dumbest private in the army."
Sometimes this is hard for a person with a lot of experience to do. To dumb things down to the level of beginners.
I would love to see videos on this subject, but remember I am a pretty dumb private when it comes to any of this stuff!

This is the difference between an expert, a teacher, and a gifted teacher.

I am an expert in some subjects, but am horrible at explaining them to anyone else. A teacher can explain it, but doesn't actually know how to do it themselves (if you can't do, teach). A gifted teacher is one that knows what they are doing AND can explain it to just about anyone.

yes i had some trouble with that as well when i was starting. i am hoping to do a video on this more today.

well i think i am a bit of all of those

but hopefully these videos help some of yall (:

i had read and read and read everything i could possibly find and watched all the videos i could find for over two years before i laid my hands on wool and it ended up being another six months before i made myself a drop spindle and got to try anything. its been about two years since then and i still am learning alot. the key thing i think is just like everything else, it can be as confusing as heck or make complete sense but until you actually get stuff in your hands and start doing it you are just preparing to learn.

spinning isnt really that hard its just teaching your hands to do something new and they have to learn how to move a new way. when i was teaching myself to knit i watched hours of videos but when i actually got the needles and yarn in my hands it was like having a different viewpoint and now having to make my hands move these funny new ways. but now i am actually told i knit faster than many people.

here is two videos i did two years ago when i was first starting. dont mind my, uh, lovely... "fashion"...

but anyhow you can see some of my first stuff. i literally started with crap i had lying around that i turned into useful items. before i figured out tp/ paper towel rolls for winding yarn onto i would use small sections of thin scrap dowels or cleaned withes etc.
and my first usable handmade drop spindle. mind you its huge, but like i said it worked. i used this for several months before an awesome lady saw me use the big "thing" at the spinners and weavers guild i found near-ish me at the time and she gave me a drop spindle. i highly recommend trying to find a meeting you can go to and see things and get to ask questions right there.

Things got real nuts here and i havent been able to figure out how to get my phone to stay setting to where i can video myself. Really wish my digital camera wouldnt have died.
Anyway i will be tryin to put up pics of yarns i have done right now and fibers and finished items.. etc.

At the moment i am workin on some crocheted slippersocks. The yarn is from some free fleeces i got locally, olde english babydoll sheep. And yesterday between chores and cleaning etc i got it dyed and it set and dried between times. I like using food coloring to dye right now because all i need is food coloring, vinegar or lemon juice, a pot and heat source, and fiber/yarn.

So this is altogether about 550yds. Pics to come.
