I tried to update a post with a video in what is my first post and attempt to earn a PEP badge. It didn't work right away so I assumed I made some mistake and tried a few more times, and now I'm thinking something is wrong. I'd really appreciate some help here.

the post in question: permies.com/p/3745185

Thanks, yeah I'm trying to add this video to it with editing, but my edit doesn't "take" https://youtube.com/shorts/AkYGSJk8XmE

Rob, I'm pretty much Permie's computer dinosaur, but I *do* know that people have had issues with Yo---be "shorts".
Persistence helped me the one time I tried, but I was following various instructions from this thread:
https://permies.com/t/30463/post-YouTube-video-Permies

So I'd give it a good read and try some of the suggestions. You are asking in the right spot and you're trying something which has given people a problem in the past, so please hang in there and post here again whether you manage to get it right or not. Thanks! Hopefully some of our more techie permies will post ideas.

Adding info as to what program/equipment you're using seems to help - like Chrome, windows ?, desktop - that sort of info.

does this embed the video? youtube gives me a "shorts" url by default, so maybe if I manually change it to the /watch?v= ....

Youtube doesn't like shorts embedded so they constantly change how their system works with other sites.

I can see the post is successfully edited several times.

Can you describe more what didn't work looks like so we can see if it's an error on our end or a need to improve a tutorial?

(How permies works in my signature will take you to a luscious list of tutorials)

I understand now that only the url with "/watch?v=" will work in the embed, not the shorts URL from Youtube Studio. I thought I tried that at some point when I was tinkering with the post, but oh well it's working now

Yeah when I uploaded the video in Youtube Studio, it has a little copy button here

That might explain the trouble I had the one time I tried. It recall that I tried each of the techniques suggested in the link I posted above, and finally one of them worked and I had no idea what I'd done differently.

Congratulations Rob for finally getting it to work. I hope you're equally successful with more of the PEP BB's, as I think it's a great program.

Sorry to bring this back up again. It looked for a moment like I was able to edit the post to embed the video in question, but now it it's back to not having the video!

I'm wondering about the message displayed at the bottom: "This message was edited 8 times. Last update was at 1 day ago by Rob Irwin" I don't think it's a problem with my video link. Could my edit be sitting in some admin's approval queue?

I checked and there is nothing waiting staff approval. You would get a message from gir, if that were the case.

Sometimes a post can't be edited because permies is a perennial resource to save people removing their posts after they have an answer to their question for example. I think this has happened to your post. I turned the edit button back on for you. See if that helps.

You should be able to preview the post to check the video is there (in desktop view)
