Do the tubs have that overflow drain hole that could be used? You could then plug the normal drain and use the overflow, perhaps sitting the upper tub to overlap the next and drain into it without any pipe needed. But maybe the water level would be too high then.

They do. That is actually what I was planning (although probably with pipe) but when we were talking about it yesterday, we figured it would be better to avoid a standing water situation and just let it drain out the bottom, due to the fact that we’re going with a mulch basin design rather than an artificial wetland with reeds and stuff. We suspect that standing water will just end up gross.
Rehydrated some cob from another project to use on the greenhouse. I really appreciate building with a material that can be reused when an old build is disassembled and which returns harmlessly to the earth if it’s not reused.
