Speaking of Game of Thrones, the words of House Greyjoy are "We do not sow." There's GOTTA be something we can do with that. Also, House Tyrell's words are "Growing Strong."

I would like to enter the phrase "Garden Naked" into the mix . Ruth Stout influenced , of course .

Also , something about permaculture being a fertility cult . "Permaculture - The Modern Day Fertilty Cult !"

I think the Wonka meme will be easy to modify for any number of topics: Big Ag, CAFOs, mismanagement of pasture grazing practices, GMOs, energy, waste, toxic gick, bee abuse, pest control, construction, and bad water management (rain water, greywater, blackwater, etc.), would all make good topics for Willie to ridicule, and I'm sure there are other topics we could address as well.

I do not think ridiculing is something we want to advocate since it contradicts with the be nice rule. Even if the BigAg and others are doing questionable things, our job is not to point fingers at them. Our goal is to show the cool things we are doing. Maybe we could add Paul Wheaton's BigAg vs OrganicAg quote to WillyWonka or modify it slightly. We could use Willy as a means for saying, "Hey! Did you know [insert thing]?"

I think the "Be nice" rule means being nice to people, not be nice to GMO's. I'm not advocating a "Be mean" approach.

Nevertheless, if you take issue with my choice of the word ridicule, you can interpret it to mean that we point out the illogical nature of traditional systems as compared with Permaculture.

The Wonka meme is invariably used with a tone of sarcasm, just as the philosoraptor is used with a tone of irreverent humor. I don't think any use of the Wonka meme that doesn't have a tone of sarcasm will be met with anything but an eye roll. The Wonka meme works because it uses a slight humor and touch of tone to point out where an error in logic may be happening. It is done in a way that most people find funny, even if it is the topic they stand on the opposite side of the fence for. In truth, just about any meme without humor on some level tends not to gain much traction. To me, Wonka memes are some of the best because they always address something that deserves a bit of thought, but do so in a way that isn't a direct attack on an individual. They tear down a bit of the wall around some viewpoint that some people would otherwise refuse to consider. Instead of saying 'this way is better' to someone with their fingers in their ears, the meme instead goes 'Hey, have you noticed this problem with your own idea?' in a funny way that disarms anger and affords no target.

Thank you for clarifying that D. Logan. Please may you post your explanation as a general guideline of how to use the Wonka meme in the SoundBoard. That will be useful for anyone who makes or critiques a Wonka meme to read.

No problem. I figured I had to explain myself better in posting it. The explanation has been copied to the soundboard as well.

Wonderful meme D. Logan! For future reference, please may you post initial memes in Meme Factory Soundboard first, and please critique memes posted in the Soundboard. Thank you so much! The reason there are three threads, Meme Factory Photo Submissions, Meme Factory Soundboard, and Meme Factory, is because each one serves a specific function. The one for photo submissions is for any photos anyone would like to let people making memes use. The Soundboard is where initial memes are posted for critiquing and improvement. Approval to the Meme Factory is very simple: just get a thumbs up on the meme or one nice comment from anyone on permies.com about the meme and it is ready to go the the Meme Factory. The Meme Factory is where all the finalized memes go, and they are ready for absolutely anyone from the permies.com community to post anywhere on the Internet at anytime. I appreciate you taking the time to read this, and I look forward to seeing more of your memes!

Sorry about that. For some reason I was under the impression that the soundboard was for working out ideas with a meme before you were sure how you wanted to go with it. My apologies.

I would like to request a meme.

"Anything worth doing well, is worth doing poorly first" -- Joel Salatin

And in the bottom right corner it can say "permies.com" kinda small.

I like the idea of having the meme. and if people see a lot of neat memes and "permies.com" in the corner, they might decide to come check us out.

I saw these banners on the permies website and got an idea:

Maybe we could also create like little advertisements per say for different topics or discussions in the Meme Factory, too.

In 1994 I read over 100 gardening books. And then read lots and lots since then. So I cannot remember the exact book, let alone where in the book, but I wrote something down and stuck it on my monitor. It was the only quote to be stuck to my monitor for about five years. I think I had to re-write that little piece of paper three times.

"Machines help you to do more, but experience less."

-- Shepherd Ogden

Meme worthy?
