The trick is:  suppose there are two people that don't get on:   bill and mary.  Bill says "oh yeah, that mary account is my old account and it is riddled with moldy bananas and smells of dirty socks.  Please shut it down so it isn't a bother anymore."  And then the next time mary logs on, she can't.  And she's pissed!

So, if mary goes into her own account, there is a way to to go to all the email settings and uncheck all the boxes.   Including the one that closes the account so that no more emails are ever sent.  Mary does it with mary's password.  Which bill doesn't know.  Everything is right as rain.

Sorry I don't understand. My point is that the account was deleted and still receiving emails. How can I stop this? Shouldn't a deleted account be deleted?

Yes.  A deleted account should be not there.

Of course, the software doesn't have the ability to delete accounts, so my guess is that it is not deleted.

Looks like account owner closed it, but it's not deleted.

If it's yours, why don't you click where it says to reopen it then you can unsubscribe to everything you don't want.  Though I'm really not sure why you'd need two accounts.

I think she is saying that the account is closed, but she is still getting emails from that account.

I did a lot of digging and ....  I think you uncovered an actual bug!

I locked the other account.  That will make sure that you don't get any more emails.

Unfortunately I am very talented in that regard (bug finding I mean)!

Thanks a lot for your help!

First world problems ....

Living in a second world country and receiving offers for playing cards in bulk, that are priced so high that a whole family could eat for months, is just too much for me.
I followed the breadcrumbs to this thread, and i read Pauls reasoning for this and i respect his conclusions.

I wish you the best in the future.

Klaus, I can totally understand that sentiment. Even here in the first world, I can't afford to buy these things. Thankfully, permies is full of free information. And, selling those decks of cards to people who can afford them, helps support this forum and all the free info on it. And, for every one monthly email, we send out at least 25 other emails with free information.

Think about those monthlyish emails as not really aimed toward you--there's NO pressure to buy anything. I don't think I've ever supported a permies kickstarter or bought anything over $5, but I don't feel too bad because I can give of my time and labor to help run this site and to help others learn.

paul you are full of shit
you say one thing but do another just like all the other corporate c**ts that have sold their souls!
see attached photo for clarification of what I mean.
I'm sick of your email updates without the actual button as  a communicatoin preference which should be inserted as it show in the attached screenshot where I left it ticked.
If you state something as an option in one's  account communication preferences then fecking stick to your word instead of fecking around
Nobody has time for these frickin school boy antics!

notice the ticked option yet the emails sent to me regularly never provide this option??????

The bit you need to click is the highlighted "click here to close your account" phrase, as shown in the image you posted.

As you seem incapable of figuring this out for yourself, I've clicked it for you. I trust this will suffice.

Burra, you are far kinder than I am.

Nobody has time for these frickin school boy antics!

I think this is a very good point.

Michael,

Because you have caused the staff so much grief with this account and your sock puppet account, I have locked both.   We just don't have time for your school boy antics.

I have created a new thread to kinda better summarize this thread here.  Please direct all new comments to the new thread.

I am locking this thread.
