A couple years ago a film crew came through and asked me questions.

Here's a clip

Now they are asking me what should be put in here as the title. So far they are just using "permaculture expert".

I searched vimeo to find that and found this:

I have no idea what that is.

- - - -

Back to the topic at hand.

What is my title? It seems that this is a pretty serious documentary, so maybe "Duke of Permaculture" is not the best fit.

In this poll, click on the thumbs up for anything you think is good, plus add a few of your own nominations.

Here are some that I listed a while ago.

click on the thumbs up button if you think that they should use "duke of permaculture" - they should stop being so damn serious!

First...those where two *&%##@! awesome short profile videos...Excellent synopsis of you and your mission...

Personally I like the "Duke" title as it pulls in everyone for child to adult to folks that might not like you calling yourself Duke so listen for that reason and can't escape the logic of what you are sharing.

As for "professional title," I reference you often as "Leading Permaculture Innovator." A "contemporary source" and archetype to where permaculture should be going. So beyond just "permaculturalist," I would have to here someone as for more specific context. All the above are applicable.

Freaking great video summaries...

Why do you require a fancy title? Will the plants grow better if you show them your new title? Do the plants care if you're a internet celebrity?

If you NEED a title, then I suggest plain ol' permaculturalist. Your reputation will mean exponentially more than a title.

Personally, I like the first video.

Duke of Permaculture is the best of what's been offered so far.

Is the film about Paul or about permaculture?

If it's more about Paul, I'd say duke for sure.

If it's more about permaculture, then I'd say "the ins and outs - by the duke of permaculture." or something.

Although Expert is correct, for me it has negative connations. There are so many "experts" especially on TV that just talk. We need a word that better reflects the fact that you are doing as well as teaching and evangelising. So simple "permaculturist" is better than expert, maybe a phrase that incorporates builder, or "experienced permaculture farmer", or "Builder and advisor to x number of permaculture farms" or "Pemraculture farmer with x years experience" Or "permaculture practitioner who has influenced x acres of land over y number of years". Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a two word phrase that incorporates all the experience and knowledge, so if the phrase needs to be longer, make it longer.

The movie is called "beyond off grid". I think I am one person out of, maybe, a dozen?

What if, under Paul's name, was a project name, instead of a title?

Eg.

Paul Wheaton
Wheaton Labs

OR

Paul Wheaton
permies.com

Those are pretty intriguing; might get someone to seek the projects out on the web.

While Duke of Permaculture is fun..it is not a search phrase by the vast majority of people...sooooo if you want people to actually find it and watch it.. use a term people use..

You can mix terms like Tips from the Duke of Permaculture a Permaculture expert..for instance so that new found fans will begin to associate the two together. Just a thought

Depending on the intended audience, perhaps you should add in "Master Gardener," thereby adding extra credence to both yourself and to permaculture for those that are wary or unknowledgable of permaculture.

So, perhaps something like "Master Garener Paul Wheaton, Duke of permaculture and founder of permies.com"?
