accidental 'thumbs down' when scrolling on touch screen

I've had this happen at least three times that I've noticed...I'll be reading a thread and then scroll around, wonder why someone was given a 'thumbs down' for a perfectly good post so I give them a thumbs up to balance, then the thumbs down disappears and I know that I must have done it in the first place...whoops.

Other times if it seems like a mistake by someone else I've reported it.....

Mine happens on a tablet, I imagine it's even easier to hit the wrong button on a phone?

No ideas for a solution...just hope I haven't left a trail of mistaken ones...although I do use the button deliberately sometimes

probably...it only happens on my tablet, not on my pc.  I've been blaming the touch screen but I never upgraded the tablet from windows 7? nor changed its browser from internet explorer....maybe time to do so

Maybe since "thumbs-down" are used so infrequently, there could be a little pop-up that says something like,

"You're giving this post a thumbs down. Are you sure you want to do that?

|They deserve it!|   |Ooops! No!|"

That way people know if they're giving someone a thumbs-down and don't give them accidentally and make someone feel rotten for a whole day unnecessarily....

"Thumbs down" happens on my cell phone all the time...I agree there should be a confirm button for this negative response because many people take that personally... I am a fine artist and other people's opinions seem so important, even though they aren't... but getting a simple accidental thumbs down can affect your self-esteem or at minimum make one second guess themselves in some way..

there could be a little pop-up


I like this idea a lot.....giving an accidental apple or thumbs up might be confusing but not as sensitive as an accidental 'thumbs down'.

I have a friend who finally quit using that icon on fb messenger for that very reason...big thumbs, tiny icons and he was hitting the thumbs down most of the time instead of the encouraging 'thumbs up'.

You can remove a thumbs down by hitting thumbs up once and then you're back to square one.  

I thought there was a pop up now though that asks if we are 'sure' we want to give a thumbs down?  maybe doesn't pop up on mobile view?

I really like the idea of the pop-up confirmation window for a thumbs down.

This got me thinking. So the thumbs up/down counter is currently black. What if, for instance, the thumbs down counter turned red (or any other color, red for conversations sake) letting me know that it was me that gave one of the thumbs down. Then I know, so if it was an accident, I can correct it. Same thing for the thumbs up. Sometimes I've already given a thumbs up, and forget I already gave one, and I give another. And this may be one of those good problems, I think more thumbs up is better and positive affirmation is good. I think having the counter change color would let a user who's logged in know they've already given a thumbs up/down. I can be forgetful and can't keep track of thumbs ups and apples that I've given.

This is odd, I actually do get a pop up confirmation anytime I hit thumbs down (which is always on accident), and have been since I started using this forum mobily (about a month).

Perhaps it's different for different phones? I use and I Phone.

The pop confirmation has been very effective, as I accidently hit thumbs down about 5 times a given week when browing with my phone.

thank god for that pop up, because i've also acccidentally given the thumbs down a few times. my aim isn't that great either, lol.

I just tried to give someone in this thread a thumbs down both from my mobile device running android and chrome, and my mac desktop using safari, and both times I got a prompt asking to make sure I wanted to give a thumbs down. It seems like this is already in place. This is new to me because I've never given a thumbs down before.
