This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Rocket.

This BB requires you to start a rocket j-tube and boil a gallon of water on it. You are not required to build your own rocket j-tube, but you will need access to one.

Some threads on rocket j-tubes
  - J-Tube Rocket Stove Question
  - Angle of tube feed
  - Dimensions of a J-Tube
  - Troubleshooting J-Tube Design

How a Rocket j-tube works (seen through glass)

To be certified for this BB you must provide:
  - 4 pictures
o pic of starting materials before fire
       o pic of fire started
o pic of additional wood added
       o pic of water boiling

Boil 1 gallon of water

I hope this is the definition of a j-tube rocket. Its a j tube with a 20ga  barrel over the riser, hot plate is used as lid of barrel. Its my second "test" rocket. Will build for keeps real soon based on what I learned.

I started a j tube here at basecamp, and boiled a gallon of water in a pot. It was pretty fun and quick! The bottom of the pot got all creasotey, so I should perhaps have burned the paper up, then once the fire was started put the pot on. I'll have to try it that way next time.

(Edit because I missed a pic when I was posting a moment ago)

These are the starting materials i used.

These are my starting materials inside the rocket j-tube before I started the fire.

These are my starting materials in the rocket j-tube after I started the fire.

This is an additional load of wood that I put in the rocket j-tube!

This is a picture of the water I boiled on the rocket j-tube!

As other people have encountered, I also encountered issues with creosote build up on the bottom of the pot. Also, while using longer sticks of wood, it requires a little bit of attention to push down the wood as the bottom burns, because if the fire gets too high up the wood, it can smoke back a bit.
