Stripe is now available for purchases at Permies (and associated sites), to enable you to securely pay via Visa/Mastercard etc., without having to use PayPal.  Crypto is now also available.  You asked and we listened!

As some of these payment options are not strictly tied to an email address, we need to connect the purchaser to the content.  So after the transaction has started, we ask folks to login (which has an email) or provide us with an email.  This works about 97% of the time.  Right now we are trying to figure out how to get that up to 100%!

Please post below if you have any issues with PayPal, Crypto or Stripe.

Example Payment Process

Here are 3 simple steps to complete your purchase, using Stripe as an example:

1. Click on the Buy Now button on a permies product either here or on one of our shiny new conversion sites (press 'proceed' on the next screen if appropriate).
2. You will then see the 3 payment options (PayPal, Crypto, Stripe) - click on Stripe.
3. Enter in your payment details and all done!

Images below to help (note that step 1 is illustrated from our lovely wood-oven.net site but also applies to purchases on permies.com).
For Crypto purchases, simply click on the Coinbase/Crypto box at step 2.  For PayPal, click on - you guessed it - PayPal!

I'm trying to use srtipe to pay for the Permies course advertised through John Bush, and it keeps saying my phone number is incorrect. It is not, and I tried manually putting it in several times.

So, I got a little excited purchasing stuff and I didn't notice I wasn't logged in. I also might have used a different email address for one-time paypal transaction than I use for the forums. To my immense surprise, I'm now the proud owner of a second permies account! How do I get my accounts (and more importantly, purchases) merged into a single account?

Hi Henri! Glad to see you're excited to purchase things here at permies

To merge your accounts, can you post a new topic in the tinkering forum about it please and we can get that sorted: https://permies.com/f/11/tnk

You can see a similar one someone did here: https://permies.com/t/206359/Merge-accounts

And now that I am reading this again, I see that you already said stripe.  Sorry.

Okay ....     so weird.  I wonder why they ask for a phone number?  I would have thought that they would ask for the card number and expiration - and sometimes a zip code.  And that's it.  What's with the phone number?

And on top of that to be psycho about phone numbers.

I don't suppose you have any crypto?

I just paid $ 25 for Sustainable Food Gardens.  However, when I clicked on "Go to your product," the website tried to get me to buy a gift copy.  I don't want a second copy, and there appears to be no way to access the book I already paid for without buying a second book.  So, please send me a link to access the book, or please process a refund.

Hmmm.... at first glance, I'm seeing the same thing.

I would expect there to be a download option underneath the gift box.

Let me poke some people and see what's happened there.

I remember being one of the people grumbling about PayPal. I just wanted to say thank you for adding the options!

Pie has been purchased (and shall soon be eaten).

Hi Permies... I'm trying to make a purchase with crypto through my Coinbase account. I have sufficient funds in my account and my Coinbase account uses the same email address as my Permies account. When I attempt the transaction the Permies/Coinbase page says Insufficient Funds in the account. Any thoughts for how to resolve will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Glenn

I know that this answer is weak:

At no point do we have any idea how much money is in your account.  Which is the proper way to do all this stuff.  Therefore, I hereby take the cheap and sleazy way out:   not it!

Not sleazy at all Paul. Thanks for the reply and I understand that there is no way for you to have clarity on the issue. I figured I would ask in case there was a simple workaround. I was just trying to have some fun using a little crypto since the values are up... No biggie, I'll just process with Stripe.

For the last two months I have received a notice saying that my payment for pie (set up to be automatic) was turned down.  Then I get one saying that the payment went through.  Would you please see if my payment was received or do I still owe you? If so do you have any idea of why this may be happening? All of my other purchases have had no issues. Thank you very much for the help.  Sincerely,  Jeff

I'm baffled.  Our dev guy is looking into it.  If you have not heard anything more in 24 hours, please bump this thread.

I seem to be having a problem purchasing slices of pie for the past 2 months. Here is the message I am getting from Paypal (I have it set up automatically through Paypal credit to buy the slices of pie each month.):

Your automatic payment did not go through

We've tried to process your automatic payment several times, and it is now past the original due date. You should contact paul wheaton to pay what you owe.

Here are the details:
Amount: $3.00 USD
To: paul wheaton
For: 1 permies pie slice for $3.00 per month
Automatic payment ID: I-GPUC2VMGG1YR
Payment due: Mar 10, 2024 Failed
Outstanding balance: $6.00 USD
Customer service website: https://permies.com

Then I get this email from Permies:
Hello Jeffrey Loucks,

Hot dog! We have completed processing your monthly pie purchase and granted you with 1 slice.

Your pies will expire on May 09, 2024 09:38:56

You can bask in the glow of all of your pie at:
https://permies.com/forums/forums/pieConsole/list

Enjoy your pie!

And, last but not least, I get:

Hello Jeffrey Loucks,

Your monthly pie purchase has failed as we're having some trouble with your current billing information on Paypal.

To keep this plan active, please check the funding source of your Paypal account.

This email was sent to: jeffreylouisloucks@gmail.com

Please let me know how to fix this. I like the automatic purchase option as I don't have internet at home and have to come into the public library to solve problems like this. Thank you. Sincerely, Jeff

Jeffrey,

We haven't received those payments from you. As it's mentioned in the email to you from paypal, there is "something wrong" with your paypal account. Paypal may not give you the exact reason as to what's wrong, but it could be something with your funding source. Maybe it's an expired or maxed out credit card?

Try from here:
https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/

Click "permies" or "paul wheaton" from the left. It should show you the status and the funding source. If you click the funding source, you can change it to something else.

However, you still received monthly pie due to a glitch in the forum software. You can keep those pie, and I just gave you an extra piece of pie for reporting this with all the details.

We will be fixing the glitch with the next release of the forum software in about a couple of days.

Devaka, I appreciate the feedback.  I use the credit functions for paying for things because about 7 months ago my account got hacked.  I had my checking account attached to the PayPal account for making payments and when PayPal got hacked my checking account information was there for the world to see.  It was not fun getting everything back to normal.  That's when I decided to let PayPal make all of my payments and I pay them off once per month.  They immediately approved me for $5,000.00. The most I use each month is approximately $375.00 so I don't think it is an overdrawn problem.  I'll call them again tomorrow and try to solve the problem.  Sincerely,  Jeff
