Live rodent trap - PEP BB animal.sand.livetrap

Took 3 tries, but finally caught a mouse with our DIY live trap! Ended up using a 5 gallon bucket with a ramp leading up to the top with some bait on a bottle that spins and causes the mouse to drop into the bucket.

Once a rodent is caught, what are you supposed to do with it?

When my pet mouse escaped, I needed to catch him before the cat/dogs found him...   I think I might have photos of the whole process to share.  Thank goodness for youtube. It was a neat little leverage trap that rocked and "closed" the end when the weight of the mouse went near it.  Worked excellent!  Little dude was so thirsty when I put him back in his home.

Recently I've been hearing some mouse noise coming from under my house, got some ideas from Permies but procrastinated a little bit. Woke up to hearing one in the house, found a hole chewed into my dog's food container. On the outside of my house I have a few open containers to catch rain water. I closed the hole of the food container and poured the entire thing into the rain tub, expecting the mouse to fall out and drown. There was no mouse. I figured I'd leave the moist dog food out and see what that catches. I moved a nearby lawn chair close to it so mice can jump in. A few days later I caught my first mouse.

I just caught a rodent in my trap.  I think it worked pretty effectively I did have to sacrifice some peanut butter though.

My pet mouse escaped his enclosure and was loose..  somewhere in my house.     My indoor house cat was a GREAT mouser and started hanging out in front of the hole leading to the plumbing behind my bathtub.    One of my dogs also tracked a scent from the living room to the same opening.    I was pretty certain my mouse (Nickel) was alive and back there.

I had everything I needed for this one!  

Scrap wood,   some recycled hardware,  a bit of wire, and a soda bottle...  

It was a bit fiddly to get it all lined up, but not that difficult.    THEN I set the trap with Nickel's food and placed it just outside the opening,  and brought the dogs and the cat into the bedroom with the door shut for the night.      Guess who was INSIDE the trap in the morning?!!   Poor little dude was VERY thirsty but otherwise unharmed.  Happy ending!
