.....And the tsunami of irrational hatred I received was equal parts terrifying, hilarious, and baffling.

So, last night, the youtube video of my RMH got a lot of views in a few hours. I woke up to find it had gained 10,000 views overnight.  A quick investigation informed me it was because someone had posted it to Reddit.
I don't use Reddit, because.... Well.... Reddit.
So, I went to look at it.
And oh the comments!
Many of them seemed to be raging along the lines of "this guy again?". Some were still spitting with rage about an AMA I'd done a while ago.
I've never done an AMA, on Reddit, or otherwise.

A quick search....

Ah. That was Paul.

Now I'm sure it would stun the brave heroes spewing negativity all over RMH Reddit posts to hear this, but, in many ways, not all bearded permaculturists are the same.

I rarely wear denim, for a start.
I'm ambivalent about pie.
I'm a mere, practically hobbit-like, 6 feet tall.

We're not interchangeable, is my point.
But I am absolutely a firm advocate of rocket technologies.
However I'm not going to descend into the depths of Reddit to argue with people who appear to hold the belief that using the word 'thermodynamics' in any sentence makes them a scientist.
No. I'm going to make even more videos about RMH tech.
Then use the income generated to build more rocket powered systems.

They're going to hate on me anyway, may as well obtain a yield!

I believe you won the internets.

Haters bring a lot of traffic don't they!

Edit: Also, care to link to your video? Link it here and you'll get lots of love.

What a great way to get the word out about RMH.

10,000 people saw your video and maybe one or two may build one.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks.

I don't know how you can stand going on Reddit! You have the skin of a rhino.

It kinda starts here https://permies.com/w/heat

If you ever watch a superhero movie, they go to battle for the good of humanity and get the shit beat out of them. So, here we are, trying to save those people in your neck of the woods that don't yet know about rocket mass heaters.

We try.

And try.

And try.

My nose is getting bloodied, but it is a small price to pay to try.

When I met ernie and erica for the first time, it was my first ever exposure to rocket mass heaters.  "Why don't more people know about this?"  "We tell everyone we can."   And when you look at the comments on reddit, there it is:

    - nothing is as efficient as a mini split

    - it's just a wood stove

So ...  I think the next step is that we need an infographic that compares all forms of heat by a buffet of metrics.  So it can cut through this sort of shit.  https://permies.com/w/280/191709/people-rocket-mass-heaters#1633841

I find making pro/con tables between the "normal" industrial solution and the natural "permaculture" solution to almost always favor the natural solution long term.

The problem is people have it engrained in them that specialized economy-of-scale solutions you buy from the store are always the best long-term solution. They never factor in the dependency on a thousand people in a thousand industries making a thousand parts that they lack the skills to create on their own. They can't fathom that by putting in some initial effort they could have a better solution than what a modern machine shop can put out.

When purchasing a depreciating asset would you rather make the whole purchase over again in a decade or just replace a brick? Adobe structures can last thousands of years while your "modern" house will need just about everything replaced within 50 years, purchased from entities & at prices you have no control over.

Unfortunately, there is no lack of bots suppressing technology in favor of throw-away culture.

I have a couple of demonstration videos planned. One, the CO myth. Another, demonstrating the effectiveness of radiant heat. But for that I need to buy a wet bulb meter. It's worth it though.

If you search youtube for

      rocket mass heater myths

you will see the series of videos i put out to try to unravel stuff.  And as i bee-bopped around the internet, when somebody would say something stupid, i would connect them to the appropriate video.  The response was universal:  just because a group of people say a thing does not make it true.  And my response is that each of those people have used and built hundreds of rocket mass heaters and you (the person i am responding to) have never even seen one.

Doesn't matter.  No progress.

So there needs to be something more.  Something different.

You could probably do a 48hr RMH livestream to YouTube with a thermometer in frame, that would certainly shut up any skeptics.

I think that's a very good idea...

Maybe with some remote thermometers for other rooms of the house (FPH?) and the outside.  Start with a box of wood and show how many days it takes to consume it.  Fast forward the whole video but slow down for wood feeding, lighting and adjusting.

You can include me in the headcount.
Andrew's 13-part series was invaluable for the construction of mine..
