I may have a problem.. how many plant are in your room?

Sigh, a reach out to the permies folks for a small reality check...  wife and daughter are kind of into plants and since we live on 20+ acres i thought growing stuff should start small then move outside. Well am i nuts to think 20+ plants per room is a bit much?  

poll, how many full sized plants do you have in the living room, kitchen, dining room... side note cactus don't count right since there is about 50 of those around here. john living in a lush jungle.

Except for the plants I keep in our indoor nursery, I don’t have any plants indoors. Outside in our two garden though, I have thousands of plants. The reason is, that I don’t spend much time indoors. I am outside most of the day, every day. It also keeps my husband from complaining, since I produce around a metric ton last year. I grew a total of 2206 pounds of vegetables, fruits, berries, nuts, grains, herbs and edible flowers. We also keep chickens, ducks and rabbits as livestock, so a lot of what I grow goes to feed them.
My advice would be to start designing your outdoor gardens and livestock pens and then let them go amok figuring out what to plant and where. After that, they will be busy gardening and preserving and have less time to worry about houseplants. Also, you probably have a very nice air quality in your home, and a higher level of oxygen than most. Plants are great at creating good air.

I only have a few plants indoors, since I'm not good at watering/feeding them and they do tend to get sickly. My orchid is having a holiday outside at the moment and I have a couple of spider plants and a money tree other than that....

Do they garden outside too? I don't think you can have too many plants inside if they are kept healthy - space and light allowing....

I hear your sigh. It could have come from my husband. The number of houseplants fluctuates, because mine go on summer holiday as well, and sometimes I have guests. I made a deal with my husband: I can have as manny plants as I want, as long as he can sit in his chair(s) and stretch his legs completely. Isn't he the best man a woman can wish for? Today, 25 years later, he learned to love them all. I developed the habit, that each new plant is a gift from... to him! Plants make us both happy!
SO: Draw a line that every reasonable person, and certainly your wife and daughter can and will respect. Claim a plantfree territorium. Learn to love the plants in your house as your babies and your wife and daughter will love you back and think you are the greatest!

Daaang there is really a thing of having too many house plants ?  I never knew !!!  Most of my plants are on summer break outside on the carport.

At the present time I have no indoor plants, though I feel having indoor plants or house plants are beneficial to folks health and well being.

I believe that house plants can reduce stress, improve focus, and even decrease anxiety.

I also believe that house plants improve air quality and reduce odor.

I have struck a nice balance with my wife.

"If you are willing to take care of the plant, we can have it."

I tell you what, she has two green thumbs and now we have a ton of indoor plants!

The conversation has now changed to...

"If you can keep this one table open for me to start plants in the spring, I would appreciate it!"

The more plants the merrier in my mind.

ZERO plants inside. They would die from neglect. I'd rather be outside. And our doors are propped open all summer anyway.

Late winter seedlings may be given a spot. Maybe.

None . . . at the moment.  I am sudden death to houseplants.   African violets survive OK though, but the last one went belly up when we were away for an extended period.

Lots of plants inside do help with the air quality, so I enjoy that part. My main issue comes when the ladies go away for a trip, and I'm tasked with allocating the proper amount of water to the plants. Orchids apparently drink less than lilies. My spider plant still like an occasional beer (had it since college days). Anyhow they seem to make my daughter happy so they continue to multiply. She is in the process of getting 20 acres of her own so after she gets her green house built, maybe I'll have less plants to worry about, maybe I'll have more, who knows. Nice to know others share similar plant issues. (grin)  john

Sometimes you can also accidentally end up with houseplants. I bought cardamom plants, since it’s known to grow well in our Growzone, only to find out, that they need higher humidity and don’t tolerate the changes in sunlight and temperatures we have here.
This means that they will live in our bathroom nursery, where they should be happy.

Oh, is that the issue?!
When we go on a trip I ask my dad to take care of my plants. Before I leave I do a check and remove everything (almost) death or dying. I rearrange the plants to their needs. For example all orchids in one windowsil. I water them perfectly before I leave and I stick a note on the window: "water once per two weeks." I put all plants that will survive my absence without water, in one room, he knows he can skip that room and focus on the others. I dont think I ever lost a plant because of his care. Every time I arange them in the same location. I dont even think the notes are necessary anymore.

I think: as long as there's room for them you can have plants as much as you like.
I have plants in the living room, the kitchen, the hallway and one of the bedrooms (the other bedroom is too dark).
