Last weekend I found out that my mower needs some service that I don’t have time to do and won’t start so I called John Deer to have them pick it up and have it serviced.  An expense, but I don’t have any time and I just want it all done.

But my lawn needs mowing now—or more accurately, a week prior. So I had to call a local lawn service to get it done—I was surprised by how much a single mowing costs, but I figured I would only need two mowings.

Then yesterday.

As I left school, I got in my van and while driving, the engine started vibrating—pretty hard.  A check-engine light came on but I got it home.

This morning when I started the van, it was there again.  I ended up having to leave school early to get the van in—and it vibrated all the way.  I suspect a cylinder isn’t firing as this happened three years prior.  I don’t know how much this one will cost, but I expect substantial.

Like I said, some week!

Oh my. Best wishes!
My sister lays hands on her mower and prays. She's a better person than me so that's probably why she has better success than I do.

Commiserations, but be prepared for "strike three"

Jill, that's funny!  Yeah, I will look out for that.  If it happens, maybe I will laugh instead of cry.

That's hard, and expensive.

Riona, Carla, thanks,

After I left, I was feeling pretty good.  It looked like it was all going to be covered under an extended warranty.  But it had to fit one of four diagnostic codes.

So of course it didn’t.

They replaced the part and then asked about air filters, oil change, and a transmission fluid change, which I knew was coming as I could feel the effects of the old fluid—not the first time down this road

The good news—it was only $2700.  That’s all.

How did it turn out? I hope it wasn't something serious or seriously expensive.

Hi Jim,

Oh, it was expensive!  And I had to add to the bill by doing a fair amount of deferred maintenance.

Oil change ✅
$✅

Transmission oil change ✅
$$$$✅

And a handful of other things ✅
$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!✅✅✅✅✅✅✅

Honestly, a lot needed to be done anyways, like the transmission fluid.  I was planning that already.  And that is not a cheap fix.

But the good news is that this is a 2016 vehicle that has been long paid off, and still under 100k miles.  So I guess I shouldn’t complain too much!

Gone are the days of the hillbilly mechanic friend who would fix it for a case of beer! 😬
