This video is fantastic! It's so much more than just 'tiny houses from salvaged materials'. He goes on to show what he's doing to design a complete system for a community, and he talks about permaculture too.

I think it needs a better title for the thread but I can't think of one yet...

Yeah , those were the first words out of my mouth when I posted it at 2am. I agree. 'Tiny house master drops some knowledge from texas ecovillage' ? that's clunky as hell too. I was way deep into it by the time he started talking about the history of his materials and the energy and man hours involved to produce them.

Evidently another benefit of DIY housing?

This video makes me want to find a local lawyer or architect or whatever who would navigate local codes and permitting to expedite legally built tiny houses.

Awesome video! Yes, I have read and confirmed that I am not the only one who noticed how ripped this guy is. I have to disagree with a few elements on this guys comments regarding his houses. They are not any less toxic if he has no control of the building materials. I saw LOTS of old paint dated to who knows. We all know old paint commonly contained lead, and asbestos was once widely used in homes. The "greening" of homes is a modern movement heavily influenced by our greater medical understanding of the human bodies interaction with materials.

Those who hammer their swords into plows will plow for those who don't!

Watched the whole thing. The man knows his materials, he isn't making a blanket recommendedation that older materials are safe.

I don't doubt his experience, but there is a tradeoff in using salvaged materials in safety for costs. Look at 8:30 where he explicitly mentions toxins, unless I interpreted his language incorrectly. There is no way for me to visually determine whether old paint contains lead or not prior to processing (sanding, cutting, etc). Also research asbestos building materials prior to the ban. Laminates, insulation and flooring are of high interests with that regard.

Dude is ripped, made me want to tear down a house right now and Ive only watched the first 8 mins. As far as asbestos im sure he is not reusing insulation. And the lead in the paint? THats a M95 mask and googles away from being sanded and re painted If thats your concern.
I was amazed at the condition of the lumber anyways Ive got to find my head phones so i ca finish watching.
so I just finished it you can defenently hear the prepper tone come out stronger through the video . Neat Ideas especially fo texas that does not have the most lumber available.

My Signature for the last few years was "just spinning wheels," but after our PDC at Pauls Place this summer I feel like we are finally catching traction. Hope to be threading some more. got a roof on our house, swales dug, and finally starting to work on our plan in more details.

That was a seriously cool documentary! The Bride and I listened to it while working around WardogHeim and she goes, "That guy really knows his stuff." Then of course there was the, "You know..." LOL

My family is heavily involved in helping to serve the homeless/veteran community up here and this is possible in Montana, outside of the city limits anyway. Putting up a bunch of tiny houses on some acreage and getting folks back on their feet, lots of older places to salvage that would otherwise go to landfilling. The other possibility is wofati style due to the lower energy costs in our colder climate up here compared to Texas. Interesting thoughts, thanks for posting this, Landon.

There was a few near the freeway but I just drove by. I was all geared up for stopping on my way out of Texas but at the exit I talked myself out of it...
