I refuse to post anything resembling my real identity online.
This is for security reasons. ( I have a stalking issue I am trying to avoid and anything even close to my real name could endanger me and my family )
I was hoping and looking forward to a great exchange of information and ideas. Lots of pictures I could share too.
If you cannot allow me this alias them please cancel my account and delete it including all content.
Please email me with your decision one way or another.
First, go ahead and change your gender, as that'll make it harder for the creepers to creep.
Second, feel free to steal from history. Is Honus Wagner is already taken? That name has got some gravitas to it.
Third, perhaps something 18th century sounding: Manasah Cuthbert or Elias Eliason. My father-in-law's middle name is Abram, which I'm quite fond of. I named a rooster after him.
Fourth, do you know anyone named Elmer? There was a time in my life, growing up, where I knew at least 5 different Elmer's. Now they are all dead except one. I think that a great tribute name would be Elmer. The last name could be something like Lincoln or Grant or Kennedy.
Fifth, way back in the 80's, I met a kid whose parents named him Adolf. Seriously. It was a little hispanic town in Southern Colorado, and apparently nobody in the family bothered to stop mom and dad when they were trying out baby names. He was a sweet kid, but I've got to believe that a name like that is going to cause you so grief in life. So stay away from names like that.
Finally, welcome to Permies. I hope you can settle the name issue quickly, get on the board soon, and you'll find yourself among like-minded people who are looking to make the world a better place. I find these boards inspiring, humorous, encouraging and tremendously informative. Best of luck with your new name.
Anything you'd name a rooster (or any domesticated critter) is an excellent start. I named a rooster Inigo Montoya after his father went to the roasting pan.

A name like Inigo Montoya or Abraham Lincohn aren't terribly "real sounding," simply because it doesn't sound like a name a parent would name their child. Abraham Montoya or Inigo Lincohn are better, because they aren't famous.

You've got me almost in tears. Elmer is my grandfather's name. He's 92, and a wonderful man. I think it would be wonderful to have more Elmers here on permies. Now you've got me almost wishing we'd named our son Elmer (my husband wanted to, but everyone--including my Grandpa Elmer--vetoed him. We named my son after my Grandfather's middle name, instead.)
My favourite, though, has got to be Wallace Shawn's "Incontheivable!" Followed, of course, by, "I do not think that word means what you think it means..."
I named my rooster Cornelius because that's the name of the rooster on the box of Kellogg's cornflakes. You're welcome to use it as your alias first name, just add a spiffy last name.
I grew up among farmers. We lived in Kansas, had family in South Dakota as well as in Canada. Elmer must have been a very popular name about 80 to 100 years ago because there were all sorts of them whenever we went to a family reunion. I never got the novelty of Elmer Fudd on Bugs Bunny --- all the Elmer's that I knew were wonderful men, soft spoken, generous, and patient with my brother and I.
I've only got one now: my Uncle Elmer (whom everyone calls Al) on my mom's side. He's in his 80's.
Gone are Elmer Rolfs, Elmer Stearns, Elmer Klock, Elmer Kreus . . . kinda makes me sad too, now that you mention it.
In my youth (call it 20 years ago) I worked in long-term care facilities. I was always amazed/amused/kerfluffled by the "batches" of names.
The one that I found most interesting was at the nursing home in a particular, very rural, Mennonite community, where no fewer than 6 men in a facility of about 50-60 people were named Menno. These were first-generation Americans (parents were the immigrants) and had been named after the founder of their denomination.
Or, you can use a first initial (not your own) and a last name of your choice.
Just make sure that it's "real sounding," so not, for example "B. Kool" or "Donald Trump." So a 50 year old Donald Trump, a fruit farmer from California, can use his own name if he wants, but you and I can't use that name.
I chose to use my real name because I thought, from moderating a facebook page and participating in another forum, that using my real name will keep my natural arrogant bossiness in check. Also, I knew I would want to post links to my real work so I might as well use my real name.
Many of the best users and even some moderators on Permies are using names that are not their own, but sound like a real name.
I knew a bunch of Mennonites back in Kansas. Did you run into any Penners, Friesens or Dirksons? There was a Mennonite family whose name was Focking. I knew another one named Fuchs (pronounced Foo-ks. Of course, we had merciless fun at their expense -- those Focking kids with their crazy Focking haircuts.

I seem to recall Friesens from back in the day. My first job after moving back was in Economic Development in an area with some "liberated" Mennonite families, one of which was the Fuchs. The thing that got me about the Mennonites was the range in their practice... ranging from Almish (almost Amish) to what I would describe as mainstream pacificsts... not even grooming or dress standards, but they still identified as Mennonite and/or Brethen.
Dunno why we need to even list a gender. Shouldn't that be optional?
For age, how about over 18 instead of real age or birthday?
It's not like either would have any effect on what their comments and things would be.
Just wondering.
I don't think we need to list a gender? I know I've never listed one (though, with the name "Nicole," most people assume I'm a woman). There's a lot of people with first initials, and I don't know their gender.
I also don't see a place where we need to list our ages. In fact, I don't even know how old pretty much anyone here on permies is.
I don't recall any requirement for age or gender. The name you choose steers people's responses one way or the other. "Pat Kingsley" sounds more male than female even if that's not the case. If you post a lot, though, people will figure it out.

Perhaps you are thinking of another site?
Although we could have fun asking people to list their favourite gander and see what happens.
Mine is...

That's easy: Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador. I would love to get out to the East Coast again and spend more time there. Lovely people, brilliant music, great beer. And real seafood, wow, fresh off the boat.

It seems like you are deliberately making this difficult. You can use any name you like as long as it sounds like a real name, you don't need to post a gender anywhere, you don't need to post an age, and if you want to, it can be any age. I would be very grateful for my life if figuring this out were my biggest problem.
