PEP BB nest.sand.kitchen - Clean a Kitchen

I cleaned the kitchen today.

The cleaners I used were just a rag, a little water, and elbow grease. When a little water wasn't good enough. I used slightly warmer water.

After sobbing internally for two days after seeing how clean the "before" pictures were at Wheaton Labs that Dave posted, I decided there should be someone who shows how much more difficult cleaning a kitchen is when one has kids. So, I spent almost three hours cleaning the kitchen that I'd had clean two days before. I used water and vinegar on the easy messes. On the stubborn stuff, I broke out the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. While cleaning this, I also cooked eggs, fed my kids, broke up four fights between my kids, got them to clean up the eggs they spilled all over the floor, had my husband get unhappy at me because the kids were loud in the house while I was cleaning and not taking them outside, got him ear plugs, got the kids to feed the chickens their spilled eggs, and helped them with various other things that popped up. And, of course, now that the kitchen is clean, the living room has been made messy by the kids while I cleaned the kitchen. I'm not mentioning the state of the bedrooms or bathrooms. My life is hopeless. I sob into my chocolate bar.

Perhaps I am a horrible mother, that I cannot keep my house in a cleaner constant state. But, I recall being at a neighbors house, who had one child rather than two, and her house was 4 times as clean as mine, and she apologized for it and said, "I feel like all I do is clean all day." I think like that is the reality of parent with small children. Unless all you do is clean, your house is a mess. I have clothes to mend, animals to tend, food to harvest, kids to play with and teach, and there simply aren't enough hours in the day.

Oh boy! I clean just about daily but I got on this BB after being sick for two days so I feel your house keeping woes Nicole! Three kids are hard to keep up after, especially when we homeschool so there always home. Took a lot longer than I expected to recover the kitchen and myself after getting sick!

I used some vinegar/water+about 1 tablespoon 7th gen dish soap in the spray bottle on the floors and counters, baking soda on the sink and anywhere I needed a little abrasive. I've got kitchen rags and copper scrubby pads for the scrubbing.
