This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in textiles.

In this project, you will quilt a shirt, jacket, pants, or skirt. Quilting makes use of scrap pieces of fabric, making larger pieces again. Use your imagination and re-use worn-out textiles, combine garments together, or create attractive patterns.

An example jacket:

Badge bit requirements:
 - patches should be small -- in general less than 10” x 10”
 - should be knee-length or longer for skirts/pants
 - should be half sleeve or longer for shirts/jackets
 - must have at least two pockets
 - must be lined or have each seam felled
 - no raw edges!

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or video (less than two minutes):
-  your starting materials
-  in process -  patching together
-  the finished item from the front and back
-  inside or wrong side of the garment, demonstrating that it is lined and that there are no raw edges

Curious, what is a likely lining when the idea is recycling or scrap jouning?

Eg an old sheet?
Would that be the equivalent or ??

For the one I did recently, I pieced together some cloth from old clothes for the lining and outside.    That's the great thing about lined clothes - it makes it very easy to sew small pieces of fabric together to create a larger one without having to worry too much about raw edges.

Fabric piecing is awesome!

I submit this quilted shirt. I finished it back in 2019, and think I managed to take enough pictures for this badge bit.

My partner had a couple old blue Field & Stream shirts from when his grandpa passed away. They were much loved and worn until the cuffs and collar were shredded, and there was also fabric disintegrating around the shoulders, yoke, and part of the front. Holes everywhere! It was to the point that I didn't want the shirts being worn in public anymore, but they had good whakapapa, so I decided to make them into something new instead of cutting them into rags.

I carefully pieced matching colours together to quilt a symmetrical garment in the various sun-bleached shades of blue. Despite starting with two shirts, I ran out of material for the sleeves, and so used a white cotton bedsheet for them. Given the small patch size in the rest of the shirt (+ cuff + 10"), I am hoping that this will qualify for a half-sleeve garment in the quilting side. Seams are either felled, covered in hand-applied twill tape, or inserted between layers of fabric (e.g. cuff insertion). There are no raw edges, and I made sure to attach the extra buttons to the inside of the garment so that if one goes missing, it can be replaced. It is lined with a retro bedsheet (stained, got at an op shop), because I have a thing for hidden floral patterns.

I used a pattern from a different shirt that I carefully picked apart to make this new one.

So is this supposed to be quilted or is it just a pieced item that is lined?

I think both quilted and patchwork.
