Full story is I wasn’t clear on the requirements before I went out to do the work. I fell on my ass trying to get the wedge out with an old saw and slid down into the creek, got fed up and just moved on to the back cut. Clearly does not meet the requirements, but I am just getting the hang of posting for bbs, so decided to post for educational purposes.

I did another standing dead fell today, so disregard the last submission.

Dropped this to the creek so I could float it down to our low crossing for extraction.

Daggum honey locust is hard in the middle. Lovely wood.

I've cut down lots of trees,  living and dead,  but this is the first I took down with a bow saw.  It was an old dead apple tree,  that was dangerous to leave up.  Most of its branches had already broken of in the wind.

I used that same $1, 24 inch Fiskars saw I used in my other post.  It's on the small side for taking down a tree of this size but it's what i have.

I cut a burnt dead tree on the lab at Wheaton Labs today.  Use a bow saw for the bottom of the notch, Leif's axe for the rest of the wedge and a bow saw for the back cut.  I kind of like chainsaws better but the axe was kind of cool...

Nice to get this one out of the way. Made cuts for the notch with a bow saw and knocked the wedge out with a hatchet. You can make an accurate cut when you take a moment from all the cutting.

This is my chosen deadstanding tree to cut with a bowsaw. It is about 6 inches spot on!
