What is this and why should I care?

This is for people that are trying to make a bit of coin.   Maybe they live on a homestead or are trying to build residual income streams so they can move onto a homestead.   We are trying to facilitate that.

At this time there are three things we have set up:

1)  Sell your stuff.   Maybe you are selling an ebook, a video, some pdf building plans, podcasts, music, software, apps, excellent photography, tickets to a pdc or event ...

2)  Sell somebody else's stuff.  Make links to the stuff offered here that offers an affiliate program (usually 40%).   If you put the affiliate link on a mailing list, social media, forums, add it to your email signature, in your blog, on your youtube stuff, whatever ... and if somebody clicks on it and buys it, you get the affiliate cut.   There is a damn good chance that you are able to think of great places to let people know about stuff that the original seller didn't know about.

3)  Sell our thread boost stuff.   At the bottom of every thread is a big button that says "thread boost".  Create a thread for a product or business or workshop or job offer or ... anything where somebody wants the thread to get more attention .... tell the folks that would be interested in boosting it, and if they do, permies will give you 40% of whatever we get for the boost!

How to set up for selling/affiliate stuff:

Follow this link:  https://permies.com/forums/affiliate/list

Done!  You can now sell stuff and do affiliate stuff!

If you look in the bottom left corner of that page, you will see a green box with a number in it. That is your seller number. If someone else is setting up a seller's thread for you - an assistant or business partner - then they will need to use this code.

Now, head on over to the Digital Market, pick some products to sell, grab your affiliate link, and get your residual income stream flowing.

Once you are done filling out the form, you should be able to see a special forum that will have oodles of details about getting the most out of your new superpowers!

Using Your F-Code for Direct Product Sales Anywhere You Like (like your own sales pages or in your email campaigns)

Step 1: Create a sales page with your product details on the digital market. More details on how to do that can be found here. Or, chose any existing digital market item.

Step 2: Scroll down to "buy this item", the url for the purchase with US shipping. (You can do this to ANY product on the digitial market).

Step 3: Copy that URL and add your F-Code to the end of it (i.e. &f=01). An example would be: https://permies.com/jforum?module=paidTopic&action=buyWithPaypal&topic_id=75203&f=01

Wow, this was easy-peasy!

Hint:  it's a private forum.

Oh, I see! Now in "my profile," then "view public profile" then "ledger and payment console" I can click on one of several menu items, including "Premium threads I purchased/rented" which has links to each purchased item - very cool!

OK, I must admit I'm a newbie and some of this terminology is like hearing Polish (which I do not speak).  So I signed up to be an affiliate, this is what I got.

So I'm still kind of in the dark about how all this works.  But I will search sometime to figure it out.

OK, I found the private forum.  But now I feel 80 because I really still don't comprehend all this geek speak on thread boost, affiliates, etc.  My son (CGT dude) will be so ashamed...  But then, he's still face palming over my "white text on black background" intro page from the Windows Moviemaker videos.
At least I figured out how to find and then watch the Digital Market forum.  There will be time for this another day, I'm sure.  Hopefully I'm at least making someone else here feel like a computer genius.

Don't feel bad!  I work in IT and I'm confused by what a "thread boost" is or does.

Regarding affiliates, that's where a seller is willing to give referral fees.  So: You link to a product you like, using a special address that tells the seller that you are the one promoting the product.  If someone follows that link to buy the product, the seller will give you a referral fee, usually a % of the sale price.  It's like sending someone to a shop you like, carrying your business card, and then the shop slips you some cash.  Does that make sense?

Obviously, this can be abused by promoting things you don't care about, just to get that %.  Please remember that it's your reputation on the line for the recommendation.  Also, you should always disclose that it's an affiliate link.  The wording is usually something like:  "The above is an affiliate link and I get a percentage of the sales price if you purchase through it."

So, Paul, can you please explain a thread boost?

Also, the signup was quick and easy and I'm off to explore the digital market.  I am only sad that I couldn't do it via the old forum view, which I liked more than the new one.  (I'm sorry.  I know that the new view is much more 2016 and not 1999, but I found the old one easier to navigate.)

more on thread boost:  https://permies.com/wiki/61482/Thread-Boost-feature

Basically, thread boost is a way to get a lot more attention to a thread.  Suppose you have a workshop and you create a thread about it.  Between the time you post and the start of the workshop, it might be seen 500 times and you sell 6 tickets.  With thread boost, it might be seen 20,000 times and you sell all of the tickets.

I think the affiliate stuff being offered is fantastic. What a great way to start setting up little trickles of income without putting in much time or effort. It's quite simple to do. And we're happy to help you sort it out!

For those who would like to start earning some affiliate fees, the Digital Market at Permies is up and running. We have videos, e-books and rocket mass heater plans. Take a stroll through and find some items you like, grab the affiliate link, and put it up on your site or your social media. All you need to do is follow the instructions in this thread, and you're ready to roll!

If you have any questions regarding how this all works, please post them in this thread and we'll get to you quick as we can.

Found a typo unless it's American English!

PayPal Email:

I like the idea of this a lot but I think you should advertise this more on the site as I have only just found this thread despite it being around for a few weeks.

Also the potential for scammer abuse is possible so doing something simple like only allowing people with x amount of posts (or apples) would deter them -if you haven't done this already.

Hello, I am trying to sign up for affliate accounts and have followed the instructions, but when I go to the ledger/payment there are no registration options.  Could someone help guide me?  Thanks a bunch for any assistance

Hi Gina,

I just looked at your ledger and I see you are already signed up for the affiliate program. Do you need assistance on anything?

Gina,

I think your intent is to be an affiliate.  There are two types of affiliate:

A:  thread boost affiliate

B:  digital market affiliate

My guess is that you wish to be a digital market affiliate.

Now that you are registered for the affiliate program, any time that you are logged in, you can go to a digital market page like this one:

https://permies.com/wiki/60211/Building-Cob-Style-Rocket-Mass

And if you scroll to the bottom you will see the exact text "Your affiliate link to this thread" (which will only appear if you are registered with our affiliate program and you are currently logged in).  Just below those words will be the url for the thread with your f-code embedded in it.

My f-code is "7" so I see

https://permies.com/wiki/60211f7/Building-Cob-Style-Rocket-Mass

Note that the only difference between the two is that the regular link contains "60211" and the affiliate link contains "60211f7".  So it is exactly the same but there is an added "f7".   That's my f-code.   Your link will have a slightly different number.

Does this help?
