permies movie night: aug 5, 2022

Poor Man's Poll for this weekend's movie selection!  If you're new to this oporation, here is how it works:

Let's vote on a movie via a little poor man's poll in the comments below, and then I'll update this thread with a link to the publicly available film of our choosing.

Then comes the fun part - we all get to come back to the movie thread and talk about the movie!  Kinda like a book club, but one where you don't have to read.  (Except then you do have to read to participate in the discussion part on the forum, but I digress . . .)

Now, technically speaking, one could watch the movie at any time.  And I guess that's okay too, but there's something kinda magical about the thought of all of us popping our own popcorn, firing up our own viewing accouterments, and letting 'er rip . . . together.

This might be the link to watch the documentary about the restoration of the loess plateau.  A landscape as degraded as any ever was, restoration project funded by the world bank.  An incredible story, blowing sands to orchards in 15 years.

There’s not a lot of specific strategies.  One I remember has to do with slope of the land:  “steeper than x, no farming” kind of thing, or something close.  Accountability played a role too, I think…..

I find it heartening, that results could be so dramatic, so quickly, especially nowadays
