Are there herbs that are a natural blood thinner?

I thought I was having a gout attack that wasn't going away.

The PA at the clinic thinks it is a blood clot and is running more tests and scheduling an ultrasound.

What foods or herbs act as a natural blood thinner?

When you're dealing with something that can kill you, please listen to the doctors and what they prescribe. I think herbs are amazing and wonderful things, but when it comes to life and death, layman's mistakes can be deadly.

My grandfather developed an issue with A-Fib where he would pop in and out of it in his mid eighties. He struggled with coumadin when they first started to approach the issue.

His healthcare team found a balance with a clinical blood thinner supplemented with a turmeric tea. My grandfather is also fond of his dark leafy greens which have a history of messing with blood thinners.

Clots are no joke, your health is in my thoughts.

Yes, I am following the advise I was given.  Waiting for an appointment to get an ultrasound.

In the mean time, I thought this might be an intersting question.

Thank you, Timothy

I have turmeric so i will take that until I can get the ultrasound and the results of the blood test to see if it is a blood clot.

Hi Anne:

I was recently researching the benefits of Lion's mane mushroom and recall an artical that mentioned it may act as a blood-thinner or anticoagulant ...I couldn't find the original article, but the following link seems to corroborate the finding:

https://www.health.com/lions-mane-mushroom-benefits-7555400

Potential Drug Interactions
Lion’s mane mushroom may have antiplatelet effects, meaning it prevents blood clots from forming. This could increase your risk for bleeding, especially when used with anticoagulant medications, or blood thinners.

I'm not a MD, so please don't construe this as medical advice.

Hoping this helps you and your physician determine a course of action and you feel better soon.

i know i've read about garlic and ginger offering potential for blood thinning.
but if it were me or my mother in your shoes, waiting for results and information, quite frankly I think I would take aspirin while I waited for more info, assuming I didn't have any danger from bleeding or any stomach issues.

It's something relatively low risk and I'm pretty sure you could find a natural preparation of Salix (or a recipe for one) instead of industrial aspirin if you preferred.

I hope you get some good solutions, from any and all sides, and some quick positive resolution.

I know I saw the bottle of turmeric just the other day though a quick search as not had good results.

I have a lifetime's worth of aspirin since dear hubby was taken off regular aspirin and put on the baby aspirin.

Thank you Tereza.

From what I remember, if you take anything 'natural' to thin the blood before you have the tests to see how long your blood takes to clot, then the dose of medicine you are prescribed will automatically allow for those natural blood thinners. And if you later stop taking them, then the dose will no longer be sufficient. So you will need to be consistent!

Wood Ear mushroom has potent blood thinner effects.

Here is Paul Stamets talking about it:

White willow and hawthorn both have blood thinning properties, Hawthorne strengthens the heart, passionflower strengthens and helps elasticize the walls of the veins & arteries. I've been giving these to my husband, and taking them myself, for several years. He was tired of all the nasty side effects of the prescriptions from his heart attacks, and has no side effects from the herbs, and feels better. For me, it's entirely preventative.

I want to thank everyone for the advice.

My blood pressure was very high so I took an aspirin twice a day.

My blood pressure last night was 134/72 so I did not take any more aspirin.

I do not have a blood clot according to the ultrasound.

I am just waiting to hear back from the PA to see what is going on with my bloodwork.

no blood clot is a good thing, I would think!

Hope the rest of your results come out soon with something easily fixed.
