I have a few rugs and they sit on a fake hardwood floor that's pretty slippery.  I've tried the rubbery lacey anti-slip stuff below the rugs but they've worn out or gotten dirty and they aren't working any more.  Maybe I could clean them...  But is there another way to keep these rugs from sliding around?  The rugs are moderately firm so if I could just glue down the four corners it would likely work.  I don't anticipate moving them any time soon so a semi-permanent installation would be ok.  Thanks!

I don't know anything about gluing down a rug -- I was thinking about joking a brad-nailer would work. We just put one of these: https://rugs.com/-3-ft-round-everyday-performance-pad-area-rug-6372356 under a rug and like the padding plus non-slip effect. But it doesn't seem like you're looking to buy something.

this is probably not what you are hoping for either.... but when i had little kids and lots of throw rugs and lived in an old house with antique (gorgeous, but also super slippery) wide pine board flooring.... I bought myself a tube of puff paint on clearance at a craft store, and put lines of that stuff on the bottom of socks to stop everyone from slipping and cracking their heads. I wonder if you could use the same on rug edges (and wonder if hot glue might work just as well).

I think you might have hit upon it Teresa!  I could hot glue the rugs in place with a dollop in each corner.  Then if I ever need to move them they should come off.  If the glue gives out in a week, I can peel it off and try something else...

Mike, we have the same issue in our house and came upon the same solution that you did.

Our rubber-lace layer worked for almost 20 years before giving out completely.  The catch was that the rubber layer had to be the same size as the rug.

I don’t know if that helps or not.  I like the idea of hot glue, but I suspect that you will need a lot more than a dollop in the corner.  Still, hot glue is cheap and won’t harm the floor.

Good luck,

Eric

Hi Mike;
What about the CATS?  They deserve entertainment and your plan would deprive them of hours of entertainment!
Charging through the house and "Stopping" on a throw rug is a daily part of our cat's lives.
Imagine, instead of sliding on the magic carpet, now they would just like stop! What fun would that be?
I think you should put down more sliding rugs for the kitty's entertainment not glue them down!!!
Your plan would create unhappy cats!  They could go out and just give up without daily entertainment!  If they are smart cats they might even learn to use the computer and report you to PETA!
If you insist on this cruel plan then I suggest buying a dozen mice at the pet store and releasing them indoors to give the poor deprived kitties some much-needed entertainment!

What's that Mike? You do not have any indoor kitties!!!  OMG! Whatever are you thinking?
Rush out to the animal rescue and pick up two or three! Every house needs rampaging kitties to keep life interesting!

PS)  The hot glue gun sounds like a winner!
