I'm still trying to figure a few things out here.  I wasn't sure where to post my questions but this seems like the most appropriate place.  I'm sure my questions have obvious answers so please excuse my ignorance.

- What are Apples?  How are they received or given?
- What is Pep?  Skip?  Pie?
- Is there a way to turn off the pop-up notifications when someone likes or replies to a post?  I like having the number pop up on the notification bell, but the pop-up notifications themselves are a bit distracting.  I couldn't find where the Notification settings are and I thought I remembered seeing them when I first joined.

Again, sorry for my ignorance.  Momma said I don't have to be smart cuz I'm pretty. 😳🤣

Hi Emmett :D
I moved your thread to the right place to ask questions, this forum is called 'Tinkering with this site" and it's watched by people who have answers for you. And Burra beat me to giving you the link to the thread that will help you the most :D

1. Apples

2. Pie and SKIP/PEP

3.  On PC, if you clip the top right where your name is to get the drop down. Click Edit Profile. Scroll down to email preferences and you should be able to adjust what triggers an email to you.

I hope this helps!

Emmett, I've sent you a slice of PIE.  Now you can check out what one can do with a slice.  Enjoy.

Thank you, Burra, Pearl, Timothy, and Deane!  And thanks for redirecting my goofy questions!  And my first slice of pie?  Thanks, Deane!  I will definitely be checking out the help section that Burra and Pearl linked to and, Timothy, I'll be looking at every link you were kind enough to take the time to put together for me.

I finally took the time to check out all of the information folks were kind enough to link to.  Wow, I'm impressed with Paul's passion and efforts to make Permies a real home for folks.  I've never seen another forum with so much thought put into it before.  I'm impressed.

I'm still having trouble finding a way to get rid of the pop-up notifications on the lower right side of my laptop.  It's enough for me to have the number of notifications on the bell.  My email preferences are set but I'm referring to the ones that pop-up on the screen.  I could have swore I saw that setting when I first set up my account and thought I was setting the notification bell to populate with how many I was getting.  I'm still hunting for the setting, but if I can't change it, it's not that big a deal.

Thanks again for everyone's help!  And than you Deane for the piece of pie.  Now that I know what it means, I'm even more grateful to you for just the thought of it!

Emmett you are most welcome to the PIE, if I could I would load you up with apples also.  The powers that be will not allow me to give away apples.  Posting on the cider press requires one to have some number of apples to post, otherwise apples will show you that others liked your post !

Enjoy your time here on Permies.

Peace

I hope it's okay to post one more thing here.  I figured since this is where the folks who make Permies happen are likely to see it, I wanted to say something to all of you.  One thing I've learned in my life that's been filled with pain and hardship, is to never leave the good stuff unsaid.

I'm sure folks come here for a lot of different reasons.  It can't be easy to run and moderate this forum, much less keep the website full of updated content.  With the way this world is today?  Especially online?  That has to take folks who care a lot about it and are generous with their time to keep it going.  But, to make it an actual community?  That takes people with real love and commitment to the belief in the lifestyle.

What ya'll do matters.  You're making a difference.  And I'm so grateful for you because this site is helping me in ways that can't be explained.  It's healing and cathartic.  It's encouraging and gives me hope.  And there have been days, like today, where this forum is the best part of my day.  So yeah, I'm very grateful for all the time and heart every one of you puts in to make Permies as special as it is.  And that's about as much Hallmark movie as I can stand for one post!

Go to `Edit profile` on the profile pull down menu on left hand side by your profile.

Look for `Email Settings`

Uncheck the box that says ` Email me when someone likes my posts `

I hope this is what you are referring to.

Thank you, Anne.  Timothy mentioned that, too.  I'm sorry I'm not good at describing the issue, but it's not about the emails.  It's about the little yellow box that pops up on the lower right hand of my laptop screen.  (I don't use my phone.)  It's there for under 10 seconds and then slowly fades away.  The only reason it's a problem is while I'm typing or clicking on something else, if that pops up, sometimes I accidentally click on it and get taken off the page where I am.

Actually, I JUST NOW captured what I mean.  Here's the picture.

From your picture I am not understanding what the problem is.

I use a desktop computer that is really old.

the only thing that I get that pops up is the notification on the right hand side that happens when someone likes my post.

Sorry that I cant be more helpful.

I must say that you are off to a great start so keep doing what you are doing and thank you.

I love that the number pops up on the notification bell.  That's good.  But see in the bottom right corner of the picture?  The yellow square that says "paul wheaton liked your post..."  That's what I'm talking about.  It pops up for about 10 seconds before it slowly fades away.  I'm sure it's just unfortunate timing on my part, but it's happened several times that, if I'm typing, or happen click on something in that area as I'm browsing, that little square pops up right as I'm clicking something else and I get taken off the page I'm browsing.  So, I'm wondering if there's a way of turning off that part of the notification system while keeping the bell icon at the top active.

Stopping the like popups is a pie feature.

There it is, thanks!  Unfortunately, to get rid of the pop up notifications on the bottom of the screen, you have to also get rid of the notification bell at the top, which I like having.  I'll just deal with it.  Thank you to everyone for their help!

I'm in the same boat. I'd disable the fade-out boxes in the lower right if it were easy, but not at the cost of making the bell disappear.
