I was provided with a blue papery hospital gown to wear for all of five minutes for an X-ray.

The fabric looks like it should be useful for something. It's not exactly my colour, and it's apparently waterproof but soft to the touch and breathable.

Any suggestions for re-using the fabric that would take advantage of its properties?

Luckily our hospital is still using cotton gowns though I can understand the use of something disposable.

I had a bone density test and got a free pair of socks.

I like the suggestion that Timothy made for using that gown as a drop cloth.

Hahahaha.

Mercifully not - I don't think the locals are quite ready for the sight of my bare voluminous butt!

i scavenge a lot of this non-woven hospital gown type fabric and use it for anything that might destroy it from sun or weather- I have a cabinet outside over my washing machine for soap, dye, etc and I keep a curtain there to stop birds from nesting in it, it lasts a few years in the sun, and i've used this kind of fabric.
If you have something in the sun you want to be slightly cooler (I've done this with my dark plastic worm barrel)
if it's water-repellant, cut/restyle to use as an apron? or as a pad to protect bed/furniture/etc?

These type of disposable fabrics might be a place that microplastics are created in large number.
