So is today the day to plug in the long extension cord and start downloading?
We'll find out soon. When it's ready, it'll be ready, and they'll definitely let us know. I have three steel drums and 200 firebricks awaiting it. :)

Maybe.

I just now went through several pieces of dvd1.   I came up with a grand total of two changes needed.   A final copy, with my requested changes, will be put up to vimeo.  If I like it, I will call it done.  If I don't, then we might need to do one more round of edits.

I think the videos will be set up for streaming at vimeo first.

So it is possible that people will get streaming at vimeo this afternoon and digital download tonight.   Possible.  No guarantees.

YAY!!! If you were closer I'd buy the first round, even if it was just coffee...! Or a stiff drink, even if it was a milkshake. Thank you, Paul! (to you and the crew for all the hard work, Thanks!)

This path has been way too long for me.  I far prefer cranking out a new thing every three months or so - tops.   Or putting out a new podcast or youtube video every other day or so.

I am very much looking forward to feedback.   I think these videos are ten times better than the last set.   There are a couple of spots where things were rougher than we would like - but we made the best of it.   I have powerful hopes that folks will think they are awesome and well worth the wait.

I supported a kickstarter dvd once, and the final product was really awful.  It looked like they didn't even spend a full day editing it.  I was too pissed to even watch the whole thing.

Attending a workshop is typically $200 or more.   I hope that this feels like having 200 hours crammed perfectly into eight hours.

Here is the official thread for the Better Wood Heat videos.   I hope that people will review it and give these 10 out of 10 acorns.

So while you are all excited to see it, I'm a nervous nelly about the reviews of the final product.  This has been three years in the making.

I'm sure it'll be 2000% better than expected. Again, thanks Paul, for all the work you and the others have put into it. I'm sure it'll be massively awesome!

The content will be extraordinary for sure.  The time you are spending on the production value should ensure a great reception from the for entertainment viewers that generally dominate.  Arduous for sure, but it is wonderful that subject experts can go direct to viewer without need for some outsider as a mediator on content.

We fixed a typo that appears on all four videos. Each video will need to be re-rendered. It takes about four hours to render each one - and then they will each need to be uploaded. So this will definitely not be happening today.

Just shows how good these will be. Thank you for everything and don't let this little gnat of a problem get to you. When they're ready, they're ready. Go Team Wheaton!

My favorite author, Patrick Rothfuss, has kept me waiting for over 5 years for the third book in his trilogy.  The Name of the Wind came out in 2007 but I didn't read it until 2008.  The Wise Man's Fear came out in 2011 (although in initial interviews he said he had the whole trilogy mapped out and it would take only a year for the subsequent books).

He's still my favorite author, because his books are awesome.  Also, he does awesome things like raising over a million dollars for Heifer Project International.  My point is, I'm willing to wait for it.  (Life doesn't discriminate, between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes and it. . . )[Hamilton reference, speaking of projects that took years to come to fruition]

Once you've released the videos they are very hard to edit, so take the time you need to make them how you want them to be!

Dear Julia, hello! Is it The Slow Regard of Silent Things you are waiting for? It came out in 2014.

Aah, I'm burning and twitching to lay my eyes on 'em videos. I believe Paul & the Rocket crew are exhausted, but they must take some delight in knowing that soon there will be so many happy puppies all around the globe
A big, big Thank You! Cheers!

Oh no, I've read that.  Slow Regard is not book three of the trilogy, it's a novella (a lovely very poetic novella) about Auri, one of the characters in the Kingkiller Chronicles.  Book three will be called The Doors of Stone.

I think I only ordered physical copies of the DVDs, so I'll be waiting a while longer, yet.  That's OK, mostly I'm happy this can be moved over into the "finished" column.  Onward and upwards!

All four dvds are now up at vimeo.   And now I am recalling how it is a slow, tedious process to manually connect each user with each video.

So out of curiosity how long could the digital downloads take to set up Paul?

They need to be rendered.  The physical DVDs are being rendered now.  It takes three to four hours to render each video.   My guess is that the DD videos will be done in the morning.  Then I need to upload them.  Once uploaded, I give scubbly a list of email addresses and I'm done!  Scubbly is about a thousand times easier for me than vimeo.

Because JD streaming with vimeo is a breeding ground for things to go wrong, I made this thread:

https://permies.com/t/58362/tnk/support-HD-streaming-wood-heat

I'm having the digital download stuff go through scubbly.   First, their design is excellent, which elimintates about 99% of the problems that will pop up with vimeo.  And if there are any other problems, scubbly is excellent at taking care of them.   So there is no need to create a support thread here.

streaming status:   all files are up and playing at vimeo.   Kickstarter supporters have been each added to each video.   Jocelyn and Destiny are adding the kickstarter upgrades and pre-orders.  And they will email everybody the links.

digital download status:  mid-quality files have been sent to scubbly.

What do you mean when you say mid quality? Are there going to be options on downloading different qualities?

Daniel will start the DD renders later today.   They will probably be of very high quality.    They will probably be ready tomorrow afternoon.  And I would need to make a trip into missoula to get them.   And then I come home and upload them.   And it might be another day or two (or three) until they become available on scubbly (technical reasons).

In the meantime, vimeo took the HD stuff and gave me videos of the resolution and size I need for digital download.  I thought they were flawless until I checked the trailing credits - and then I can see some of that jpeg-garbling .... just a little.  I suspect that most people won't notice it.

The plan is to put the vimeo version up today/tonight and get everybody going.  And then in a few days put daniel's version up.

Maybe when you see it you can tell me if it is plenty sharp enough.

I turned the email over to destiny while I worked on DD.  It seems that destiny needed to chase her toddler instead.   I just got off the phone with her, so while I wait for the files to be blessed over at scubbly, then I will handle the streaming emails.   The streaming emails might go out in 20 minutes or so.

This was an email from permies with links to Vimeo.

Special note:  when I first tried the link, vimeo gave me a "page not found."  I had to click on "log in" at the top of the window and then after my password was entered, the video magically appeared.

Very soon Paul, you can put some wood in the RMH hot tub and go soak away your cares, take a beverage with you, and kick back. Thank you for the hard work, and I know I'm a long ways down the queue, just the thought of SOON is good'nuff here. Can't thank you and the crew enough.

I do think there will be an "eye of the storm" where the streaming stuff and digital download stuff will calm down, and we are waiting for the boxes to come back from the printer.

Well I did the math (dividing 5522334703 by 1024 for kb, then again for mb, then for gb) and got 5.14 gb. And the system is being a pain so I am going to work on my mending and sit the computer. Will be so worth it, and this is nothing compared to the 9 day backup to dropbox I did recently to get Windows 10 installed before it cost money. This still beats waiting another few months for the DVD hardcopies. Can't wait to kick back tonight and start watching. As I said I have a few over 200 firebrick and three steel drums waiting. I will be warm this winter...

Yes, my downloading is in progress, about 50% done. I purchased 12 Aug just under the wire (very early that morning) so if it goes by order of ordering and kickstarter was first, then you're seeing the end.

The single video digital download stuff has been sent.

Therefore, all streaming and digital download stuff is done-ish.  I suspect there will be some problems to resolve here and there ....  scubbly is a small business that sounds like it might be feeling some pain right now.    vimeo was challenging to configure - oodles of opportunity for mistakes to be made.

Jocelyn and Destiny are processing the last bits of kickstarter upgrades, pre-orders and vimeo wonkiness.

The videos are at the DVD printers, along with all of the video artwork.  I am exchanging emails with them about details.

I have to go into missoula to pick up the jump drive with all of the particulars on it.
