I know this is a simple question , but not simple for me
How do I post a photo to this forum or post it to a " purple moosage?"  Photo is here, forum is here. This is a new operation for me. Lol. Could someone here please tell me how to do this?  Sorry, I know most 5 year olds can accomplish this task.

I too struggle with getting photos on the forum, Larry.  Hopefully some young whipper-snapper will help us out!

Larry, if the photos you would like to post are on your computer, click on the box that says 'attachments' along the bottom of the reply box, then click on 'browse' and that should take you to pics stored on your computer, from there highlight the photo you want and click 'open'...that should add it to the attachment.  Then you will see an option to add another...I thought there was a limit of three but I see now it is ten!

If you want to use images from other places on line, usually you can right click on the image (sometimes it's necessary to left click first to get a larger image with the right 'right click' options) and select 'copy image location' then go to the reply box and copy and paste in the space provided after clicking on 'Img' among the options above the reply box...make sure your cursor is where you would like the image.  This option will place the pic anywhere within the body of your message.  When 'right clicking' there is an option to 'copy image' also but I've had problems with that attaching the image so haven't been using it....might just be me.  It should allow you to copy and paste right into the body of the post.

I'm sure someone else can explain more clearly and with more options.  I use my camera pictures that are stored on my computer mostly and others off of internet sources other times.  I don't know how to post from a phone.

A purple moosage has the 'Img' option also.  I've never tried to attach a pic with a PM though....

I found the tutorial! https://permies.com/t/61133/Post-Image-Permies I think you want the "posting as an attachment" tutorial....I'll just paste it here to make it easier on everyone!

If your image is on your device and you don't feel like uploading it anywhere online, you can just attach it directly to your post.

  • Write out the body of your post.
  • At the bottom of the post, you'll see some tabs - click on 'Attachments'.
  • Click 'Choose File', and select the photo you would like to upload, keeping in mind the file name will be visible to everyone.
  • Add a brief description of your photo.
  • When your post is done, click 'Submit'

Marcus, if you follow the second link that Nicole provided, besides being a wealth of information there, you will see from my posts there that that was all new to me at that point...fun to learn new stuff.  I'm avoiding the whole smart phone thing though as I spend enough time at my computer table...not sure I want it to follow me around in my pocket

I don't think it's possible to add a photo as an attachment to a PM.  For those, you'd have to use a photo that was already uploaded somewhere and use the IMG button to link to it.

Just checking to see if it is still not possible to attach an image to a Mooseage?

I tried linking to my Google account but when I previewed it and went to the link, it appeared to open my entire album of photos as well, although that may be because my PC is already linked to it?

Would really be nice if there was an official Sticky thread on how to post pics AND what can AND can't be posted when or where, I searched for one, but couldn't find it.

    Kyle,

I was hoping somebody else would reply to your question.  Since nobody did, let's get you sorted ...

So you have a picture in a private folder on google, and you want that picture to be part of a PM to somebody here on permies.  And you don't want to embed the picture, you want to attach.

I never use our PM stuff, but since nobody else is helping you, I will now attempt to send you a PM and see what it does.

It looks like there is no way to attach an image with a PM.  So if you want attach, you just will not get that.

And if your goal is to ask us to add software for that, since it is my decision and I don't use PM stuff ...   I generally pay for new development for stuff that I use.

Can you get an email address from the person and email an attached image?

I think the reason why we don't have attachments in PMs (aside from development costs), is that it would be hard to moderate. If someone decides to spam a bunch of people with attachments of dick pics, or of attachments with viruses, it would be hard to catch.

While some moderators can read PMs, it's not something we really want to do. And we certainly don't want to always be reading everything that's going on in PMs to catch terrible attachments. On the main forum, it's pretty easy to see what attachments are happening, because we have enough moderators to be happily reading/skimming though most every thread as it comes out, and there's the "report" button on posts for non-moderators to bring things to our attention if we miss something.

Usually if I want to attach a picture in a PM, I embed it somewhere on permies--like in a relevant thread. But, one of the perks of being a Pollinator is the ability to make a private picture thread that only Pollinators and Moderators can see (no search engines can). But, that only works for people with access to a private forum, and it might not work for pictures you want to keep private between just you and that person.
