Show me your fungus. (Mushroom Photos)

Found this huge chicken of the woods while exploring some side trails the other week.

It was right on the trail like it was left there for me, I couldn't believe my luck.

I guess it's true, sometimes it pays to take the path less travelled!  ;-)

On the site of where an old oak stump by the road ended up getting ground into the earth when the tree was removed.

I've got a large stinkhorn population beneath my yarden. They're concentrated where the dead roots of a box elder maple extend.

They're fascinating, because beneath the skin is a gelatinous hemisphere and the skin is easy to damage and then the gooey interior is revealed.

The mushroom forms very quickly. I'm not sure how quickly, but I've often visited the yarden in the morning to see a witch's egg and returned a couple hours later to find a fully formed stinkhorn.
