That is all that I have handed out so far.

Kickstarter is still processing stuff.  The haven't even sent any money yet.    Apparently we are in a state now where we should wait until they say "all done".  But I decided to risk it and start handing out some of the candy early.

We need to finish the editing, which requires money.   The money will be sent in a few days, and arrive 3-5 business days after that.

My stuff does not appear as an option on the mobile version of the site. Was trying to figure out where it was and saw it correctly showing the 3 candies when I changed to full version. Just an FYI.

Just something to mention that may help others when attempting to access the embedded Candy videos.

If you see something like:
"Sorry
Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here."

Your web browser may have a "privacy enhancer", Such as Privacy Badger or uBlock.
If you allow Permies.com through, your video should display properly.

I haven't used Kickstarter a lot but it seems I needed to select a reward? I can see that now as I don't have any. I've been getting the Project Updates but no reward info. Am I out of luck at this point or is there anything to be done.

Thanks and congrats on a great launch.

I will make sure it all gets sorted out.

My guess is that you would like the reward called "HD-DOWNLOAD", is that correct?

All seems to be working great.  I'm logged in.  I goto "my stuff".

The three videos are there.  I clicked on one.

It is playing now, and is very interesting.

Just like victoria, kickstarter says it has you down for an amount, but not for an award.   I will make sure that you get all sorted out properly.

If you need it right away, you can buy it.

But ...  I suspect that access to this will happen in the next 48 hours or so.

Hi Paul,

If I may suggest something, the "goodies"  emails  are not particularly clear, what they are. While I enjoy your playful style in your daily-ish, however it wasn't clear at all that these "gir bot" whatchmacall it ones, had anything to do with Kickstarter. Took me a while to realize that I DID received those goodies emails from you,  for a few days I thought I got access via "My Stuff",  but no emails, in fact I was  about to write here that I didn't received emails, and only going through my mailbox for the last confirmation, I realized they are the ones.

I would suggest add a line on top, that these are Kickstarter goodies, or better yet flag it in the Subject, or From fields.

Many thanks for your work anyways, and all the best - looking forward to receive my big ass reward k

Can you copy and paste one in here, and then modify it in the way you think it would be better?

The key is that this is something that is used for a lot of things.   But an important thing is that the wording for that email has to fit for kickstarter stuff and for other uses when an item is given to one person, or to a few hundred people.  This feature is what makes it super easy for me to do a LOT of cool things - including giving out so many bits and bobs in a kickstarter.

from the kickstarter pm stuff

when do i get the physical dvds or whatever i,m supposed to get for the 15 dollar that i helped with

Apparently, the funds were sent to us just moments ago.  We should receive those funds in 3 to 5 business days.  The we buy things for the dvd and mash those things in.   And then we ship the master dvd off to the printer and it gets printed.   They ship the printed stuff here and we then send the dvds out.   September.

BUT!  The $15 level is for the streaming version.  My guess is that that will be about two to three weeks.

Hi Paul,

I appreciate your reply and am a bit hesitant to add to your workload at such a (presumably) hectic time. Here's an example automated message, with my edits into something I would consider easier to grasp, while scanninng quickly a busy inbox (bear in mind, I'm not a native English speaker, so might not be the best at that ):

Hi Michal Byrne,

I am gir bot! A rather limited bot buried deep within the bowels of this forum software.  I come to life once in a while to talk about my favorite things!

Today, I have been activated because
You are receiving this message as one of the free goodies, from the recent Paul Wheaton's Kickstarter campaign about rocket owens: "all of the PDC and ATC (177 hours) as HD download" on permies.com.

Please go through the following link to enjoy:

I appreciate your reply and existing constraints better now, and really, all the above falls into "nice to have" category; once you figure this out, it is just fine. It might be a bit confusing to figure out initially, that's all.

Many thanks for your work, sense of humor  and pragmatic approach in all that you do!

Michal,

I think we are down to artistic style.   Some will prefer the gir bot approach some would prefer something less ...  flavored.  And, of course, there is no way for the system to know a recipient's preferences until the email is sent.

If you follow the gir bot link, i think you will find that a lot of people like gir bot.

And then there is the all volunteer staff that is trying to help folks.   I think it is pretty well agreed amongst the staff that gir bot solves a lot of problems - entirely because of the style of phrasing.  My guess is that it just puts some folks in a better mood so they are less likely to find an excuse to get angry about something.

As you say:  not for everybody.

I suspect that no matter which path we try, it will be less than optimal and that there is no perfect solution.   So, we make the best of it.

PDC and ATC folks ($150 and up):  I accidentally gave you the wrong stuff ("HD Download") so I went into the system and did an "undo" on that, and have now given you the correct stuff ("HD Streaming").

Sorry for the mixup.  Everything should be right as rain now.

This means that your email about the HD download stuff will no longer work.  But your stuff for the HD streaming should work silky smooth.

I thought to myself, "I did not realize I got a download--I guess I will spend this evening downloading all the videos onto my hard drive." Dang! I was not quite quick enough!

Streaming will be fine. I am very, very pleased with how much great content has been given at this price! Now I just need 177 hours of spare time!

If I could have the wish of my heart, it would be to have the option on the streaming content to play it at 1.5X or 2.0X like you now can with YouTube videos. Much easier to zoom along at 2X and then slow down for sections where I really have to think hard.

There should be an offer for that in the streaming forum for the PDC and a similar offer in the streaming forum for the ATC.

Your account shows that you don't have access to that.   And the email address for your account is not on this kickstarter.  Is it possible that your kickstarter email address is different?  In the email you received about that item, you might need to click on the link to add a secondary email address.

Hi Paul,

I want to first thank you for doing the rocket oven kickstarter.  I can't wait you get the DVD and I really appreciate the Candy, but alas much of that I had already purchased.  My comment/ question is this, "would it be possible for you to put together a simple bill of materials so that I (and perhaps others would be similarly interested) so that I/we could have all the materials on hand when we get the DVD.  As a design engineer of 35 plus years, I would be happy to assist in the preparation of said BOM.

THANKS

Sincerely,

Ralph

Which way are you going to build it?  Indoors out outdoors?  With welding or without?  Portable or fixed?

To come up with a list of the materials for every conceivable way you might build it would be a long list that would take a long time to compose.  So long, it would be worth asking if everybody that supported the kickstarter is willing to wait a month for the DVD.

I think it is better for us to focus on getting you the DVD, and then you can make your choices.

from the kickstarter private message stuff ....

Hi,
I've tried several times to download the "Premium Access" items, but I have been unsuccessful.
I have registered with Permies, and even when I'm logged in I don't see any indicators of what to do or where to go to download the items.
I pledged $15.

Thanks for your help.

When you are logged in, the emails will get you to where you need to go.

But if you don't want to use the emails, then when you are logged in, you will see "my stuff" at the top of nearly every page.   I just looked at your "my stuff" and there were lots of goodies there!

If looking at this forum on a phone using mobile view, scroll to bottom of page and click desktop view. After that, go to top of page and click "my stuff". Everything is there from the kickstsrter. It should be self explanatory.

Mobile view was my problem. There was no " my stuff". I hope that helps others.
