I am so happy this is happening!

I wanted to mention that because I am in the USA my bank had to check if I really wanted to use my debit card in Canada.  I got a robot call last night with a concern about our debit card use and I hung up because I thought it was a scam.  We went to the bank this morning and got it straightened out...apparently if I had not returned the call they would have locked my card!  At the same time I got a kickstarter email that said the payment was processed so I guess if I had not 'confirmed' they would have retrieved the funds?

No 'support' necessary or problem to solve, just passing this on in case it's a problem for anyone else in the USA.  This is my first out of country purchase.

Congratulations to the two of you!

Thanks for posting this Judith.  That's really good to know!

It looks like Kickstarter takes 14 days from the 25 Oct, 2018, to process the payments and then a few days for it to come to my account, then a few days for my bank to release the funds.  Talk about complicated.  But Kickstarter knows what it's doing and I told my bank to prepare for the money so there shouldn't be too much delay.

Once it's here, I'll start dishing out the digital rewards.  In the meantime, Tracy and I are hard at work getting the rewards ready for you all.

I'm starting to send out the surveys now.  Depending on your reward level, you'll be getting an email from kickstarter over the next week or so.

Please enter your mailing address if asked.  I can only send out one survey per backer level, so I have to ask for the address now.  If you move, you can change it before I ship in January.

We're working like the clappers to get everything finished, but at this time, we're still on schedule.

Very excited about this, and congratulations!

Any way to add a packet of seeds to my pledge?

If it's too late, no problem.  Just wondering

thanks so much!

If your reward level is over $50, seeds are included (as part of the stretch goal)

Excited that your Kickstarter was successful!  Just got my survey.

REALLY not clear about this Novelty Thanks featuring my most creative name?  What is this, where will it appear, can you describe or provide examples?

Still finalizing what this will look like.

It's a digital reward - in that we will publically thank you on the internet in a creative way.  There will be a thank you thread on permies, because it favours perennial discussion.  Also, thanks elsewhere as well because you deserve it.

For this project, I'm using a Leclerc Fanny Loom.  It's an oldish loom I picked up second hand.  This kind of loom has a lot of memories for me as I learned to crawl while my father weaved on a loom just like it.

Supporting this project ended up being the incentive I needed to finally join permies after years of reading threads.  I'm worried that I'll have problems receiving the PDF's or accessing the yarn growing forum since I wasn't already a permies member.  Thanks for writing this book.  I'm looking forward to learning from it.

I can't wait to get the book!  Would you say that your new book covers a lot of the processing in relevant ways that other books don't cover?  for example, there is a book written by the brothers at the Hermitage which I've always eyed but haven't had the opportunity to read.

and then for spinning, these are the books i have:

Linen Handspinning and Weaving, by Baines
Handspinning Flax, by Olive and Harry Linder
Spinning and Weaving for Softness & Speed, by Paula Simmons
The Practical Spinner's Guide - Cotton, Fox, Hemp, by Gaustad

Question: I'm sad I missed the Kickstarter, where can I buy the book?

Answer: It will be available for sale after the Kickstarter rewards are dished out.  Probably January or February 2019.

I'm taking a waitlist for shops that want to carry the book, but I'm not yet taking a waitlist for individuals.  But I will announce it on this thread when it's available.

The book thread is up - https://permies.com/wiki/96441/Homegrown-Linen-transforming-flaxseed-fibre

A couple of beta readers have posted reviews.

An update about where we are with the book is expected after the holiday feast. (hopefully next Friday)

Great question!

If you go to the kickstarter page and choose "view pledge" it gives you the option to view your survey answer and change your address.

Hint: when I'm ready to start shipping, I'll lock the survey so the address cannot change again - but that's quite a ways away.  Until that time, you can change the address as many times as you need.

Hi there! I'm excited about getting the book!

I did have a question about whether you will do a book signing tour in the U.S. I live I California and have a business that's a nursery/market/gift shop/café, and we've had a couple book signings in the past. We've also invited a local fibre artist to do a couple of workshops that turned out great. Anyhow, if you're coming our way (Central Valley), we've love to have to sign books at our place!

Lemme know!

Hi eric,

Glad to hear you're excited.  It feels really good to have the files at the printer, ready to print.

Your shop sounds amazing!  I wish we had more shops like that here.  It's unlikely I'll be travelling much.  The farm and the family keep me pretty close to home these days.

Most of the digital gifts went out today.  If you haven't received yours, please check the email you used for your Kickstarter.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in this thread.  I'm not checking my emails very often for the next few weeks so I can focus my attention on creating new and exciting things.  But I will keep a close eye on this thread.  Posting here is the fastest way to get in touch with me.

Oh well! If you ever make it our way, please stop by! It would be great to meet you and have you sign my book, assuming it's unsigned when I get it! I'm buying a second one to give to our fibre artist friend at the store as the matter of fact.

Keep up the awesome work! Love what you're doing!

There seems to be a bit of trouble with people who use yahoo emails.  IF you used a yahoo email address for your Kickstarter rewards AND you have yet to receive the email giving you a reward, please post here.

Anyone else having trouble with their rewards, please check your junk email folder.  The email with the rewards comes from a creature called gir bot and from the email address permies at permies dotcom

Hi Raven,

When funding the campaign I was torn between the HITCHHIKER RIDES AGAIN! reward and the LEARN TO SPIN FLAX KIT! reward. I ended up choosing the HITCHHIKER RIDES AGAIN! in hopes that maybe I could combine them... Would it be at all possible to swap out two of the three books that come with the package I got for a learn to spin kit? I don't even need the full kit if that's too expensive, I mostly just want to get my hands on that spinning instruction book.

I tried to put my request into the notes part of the address survey, but I wasn't sure if it got through. I'm not sure how far you've gotten with the rewards or if it's possible to edit the packages, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot anyway!

Thank you and I'm looking forward to seeing the book!

PS Is this forum the one in the "access to a private forum about growing yarn and future books" reward?

Hi Greta,

I'm not sure if we can change much at this stage as I've already received the fibre and spindles for the kit.  However, we did include the Learning to Spin instructions as an appendix in the book.

I'm sending out an invite to the private forum later today.

I hadn't realised it was part of the book, that's awesome. :)

Trying to access Kickstarter for "Homegrown Linen" and all three of the .pdf files that were part of the pledge price seem to have a further price attached to them. Am I missing something!

There should be an option to buy the content as a gift for your friends - that's standard on the digital market.

Below that there should be a place visible to only those who bought or have been given access (like you) saying "click here to download"

All the digital rewards are now sent.  If you haven't got your emails yet, please check your spam folder.

At the top of this thread, we have the creative thanks.  I'll be posting it in a few more places to show off how much I love you all and am grateful for your support.  Tracy did a fantastic job with the art!

The physical rewards are still on target for the end of January.  We'll know more on that once I get the proofs back from the printer.

HI Raven,
I just got the kickstart update of 12 27 18,

So far I have not received anything asking for my shipping info

(unless I got it responded and then forgot, that kind of thing does happen in my life)

Is there anything I need to do?

Thanks

Everyone who's getting a physical reward should have access to the survey via Kickstarter.

I looked up your email address and you filled it out on Nov 12, 2018.

I won't be locking the survey until it's time to ship, so if anyone needs to change their address before then, you can do that through your kickstarter account.

The most recent update on the printing of Homegrown Linen!

As I said in the update, we are now in lambing season which means I'm spending more time with the sheep and less time with the internet.

The fastest way to get my attention for any matters about the kickstarter is to post to this thread.

An unofficial heads up.

The city has been shut down most of the week due to bad weather with the police telling us to keep off the roads as much as possible.

This means that a lot of people haven't been able to go to work this week.  More bad weather forecast for this afternoon.

This may add another week's delay.  Possibly.  Right now we're just focused on keeping everyone safe.

How to double check your mailing address:

1. Log in to Kickstarter

2. Go to the Homegrown Linen project page https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/168826879/book-homegrown-linen-transforming-flaxseed-into-fi

3. Click "View Pledge"

4. Choose Survey

Seems a bit more complicated than necessary, but Kickstarter seems to know what they are doing.

Remember, please post here if you have any questions.  There are 102 urgent emails in my inbox.  It looks like most of them are asking this question and I have a lot of snow yet to move before sunset.
