This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Animal Care.

In this Badge Bit you will clean out at least 4 chicken nest boxes.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
 - clean out at least 4 chicken nesting boxes
      - fresh straw or clean wood chips/shavings
      - maybe add a little DE in the boxes

 - post a picture of you replacing the straw or clean wood chips/shavings
 - post a picture of the 4 clean nest boxes
 - OR a 2 minute video of you doing all of this

I use pine shavings in both my duck and chicken boxes. Would it be okay to use pine shavings for this Badge Bit?

Also, I'm assuming ducks would work for this badge bit, as they lay in nesting boxes, and actually make them quite a bit messier than a chicken does. Do ducks count?

Ducks are fine.

Pine straw is fine.

Pine shavings ....   hmmm ....   post a pic?

It was time to clean out the deep litter in the coop a couple days ago.  So I got to clean out the nest boxes as well.  Much like other wonderful people, I use pine shavings for bedding and nest boxes (by-product of planing pallet wood for other projects).  The front of the nest box flips down for egg access and the birds normally get at it from the back side.
