Rocket Ovens Movie as HD download

Hi Paul,
I did not know there was an HD download option for the Rocket Oven dvd. Just wondering if there is a way to upgrade an HD streaming to an HD download without having to pay the full $35 since I already got the $20 streaming, just in case I want to download it.

There is a brand new feature in our software to set up upgrades.  So I just now attempted to do this.  I was able to add two upgrades (one for tiny download and one for hd download).  I have no idea what it looks like, but i do see there is now a big link at the bottom of the hd streaming page.  Here is the HD streaming page.  Give it a try and tell me how it turns out!

I am looking for a way to do the download with a download manager instead of the browser as my internet service is not reliable enough for such a long download.

I am getting this error when I copy the link:

"XDM could not download the file as server sent an invalid response."

I think what you are saying is that it downloads fine with a regular browser, but if you use a different app then it does not work.  This makes me think that the app has some shortcomings which neither of us are aware of.  

Perhaps try a different app, or pick the video up when you happen to be somewhere with speedy internet?

I was trying to use the XDM download manager and the usual method of right-clicking on a link and then telling XDM to download was not working. Download managers auto-recover much better than browsers when there is a hiccup in the connection and usually are more efficient about grabbing files. I think that the issue is that the download link provided is not a direct link, but one that is somehow served up when one clicks on it.

This HD version is the same content as the smaller downloadable version that was made available a few days ago, yes?

It looks like the file server doesn't support byte ranges.  This limits the abilities of a download manager to do much better of a job than a browser, sadly.  I have a pretty flaky connection and my browser failed to download the file several times - after transferring about a gig of data each time  A download manager I use did no better.  I finally switched to a command line downloader (curl) running on a remote host with a fast reliable network connection.  From there I can use something that supports resuming an interrupted download to get it to my home machine.

I am in an Australian rural area and have tried numerous times for the past week without success. I've added "Simple Mass Downloader extension" to Firefox which hasn't helped either. My connection is via a mobile phone which I haven't had issues before down loading files as large as 2Gb.

This is why a lot of people are getting DVDs in an age that is nearly all digital.  

This is also why a lot of people get "tiny download" instead of "HD download".   5.2 gb vs. 0.6 gb.

Paul, I am in a similar boat, in that I have attempted, repeatedly, to download the HD file that I supported in Kickstarter.

Would it be possible to add the file to a cloud service such as OneDrive or DropBox, which could then sync with our respective machines without the download repeatedly dropping out?

Personally, I use a number of cloud services, mostly for this reason.

Jay appears to have gotten his file 100% downloaded.  

It looks like your connection is freaky slow.   Way too slow for such a massive file.  Do you have a download plugin you are using - those tend to keep a download going despite having such a poor connection.

I'm asking my developer to have a look at this.

Hi Paul,

I'm running a desktop computer, here in Cambodia. My O/S is Windows 10 and using the Chrome browser. Sometimes, I am able to download fairly large files. At other times, it's a no go. Torrents work fine, regardless of the size of the completed file. However, peer to peer direct, downloading a single file, seems to be an issue for me.

Like I previously stated, I use cloud services to sync files from others, fairly often. They simply download until they are complete, no matter how long it takes. After clicking on the link to the HD documentary, it may run for up to several hundred Megabytes. But, it always ends up with an error message. It has not made it to one Gigabyte, yet.

Unfortunately, we don't have a feature to transfer files from permies to third-party cloud services.

I can see that your downloads have been interrupted due to network errors. That should be your ISP trying to reset the connection. Do you have a secondary internet connection to try this with? Maybe a mobile network?

No, unfortunately I don't. I live in a Third-World country, as you already know. We are in the sticks, as it is, on a farm 18 miles from the nearest town / city. We were fortunate to get this connection.

EDIT: We have been away a few days, in the city. I am attempting to download it again, right now.

Well, the last time I attempted to download the file, the download speed wasn't nearly as fast as it is now. So far, I'm receiving between 400-550 KB/s. Already over 200 Megs of the download.

Devaka, unfortunately, the download failed again at something over 800 Megs downloaded, if I recall correctly.

If you have any solutions or suggestions, I'm open to hear them.

Paul,  you have the lower res version of the video downloaded, right?  So you can see the video now, right?  And maybe in the next few weeks you will happen to be in a spot that has better internet.

I was finally able to download the smaller file, yes. But, that isn't the point. I chose the HD version due to the HD monitor on which I view videos.

I do not own a laptop. I only use desktop computers here at the farm. I also travel infrequently now, due to my health.

How about a slice of pie and we can call it even?

I wanna make sure you get what you paid for.   I just wanted to come up with a compound solution.

I think in a previous version when I first offered downloads I said "no support for downloads - you gotta really know what you are doing to get this option."  But I didn't say this this time and am now regretting it.  

Some computers cannot comprehend a file bigger than 2gb.   Some computers don't have enough space for such a large file.   And then the computer has to have something that will play the mp4 file.  And then some people download the file and then they can't find it on their computer.  And then I think there is your situation:  shitty internet - so shitty that your browser eventually says "i give up."  

On and on and on with a massive buffet of issues.   So 99% of the people have no problems and then the last 1% are a serious struggle.  And a few of those 1% have been taught that psycho anger is the solution to all problems - So, thanks Paul, for not playing that card!

With the streaming, you just hit play.  The end.

Thank you Paul, I appreciate you. Sorry to bother you but Quicktime is saying that it, "can't open a file of this kind". It downloaded asrocket-oven-640x360.mp4.part is that correct? Any suggestions? Took long time in Prehistoricville to download so hoping there's an easy fix.

I know nothing about apple stuff.  

Frankly, I only want to do hd streaming, because that seems to work for everybody.   But people want downloads and tell me that they know what to do.  

Maybe somebody else reading this can answer your questions.

Hi Morgan,

If your filename ends in ".part" the download did not complete and you will not be able to play it. You may be able to resume from where you left off, depending on your setup.

When you are logged in and looking at the top of this thread, you should see something for "upgrade to physical DVD - with US shipping".   Do you see it?

when I try to download the browsers I have tried just die. wget gives me an error:server response code 500. This may be my isp. I will look for an opportunity to use another.

Wow, tried so may times to download it and finally got it going. Apparently most browsers have a file size limit for downloading, so i used a browser called "puffin browser" on a smartphone, as it doesn't have this limitation. Then it downloaded super quick with no troubles! The DVD is incredible, I hope you guys keep pumping out material like this.
