.....after almost throwing our CD player across the room when it continued to tell me there was 'no disc' even though I had just put one in...I got out some early Nina Simone with George Wallington on piano..who both sound wonderful even on the Spin O Rama label...vinyl, even with some pops and crackles has everything there, unlike the digital technology thats been used for so long. The description of digital that sticks with me is that it is like looking through a screen door to the out of doors and in each opening selecting only one color...it removes so much depth.
But, on the other hand, I really want to hear more of the music you are all suggesting. We have always joked that we would get a computer instead of this Kindle3G, when we were unable to walk but maybe we don't really want to wait that long.
Michael, I am going to try to find that documentary through a friend who gets Netflix.
EDIT...now...it's Patti Smith (NOT Smyth) a 1978 album on Arista AB4171 The Patti Smith Group "Easter"...can't get it loud enough...wonderful poet.
