I will first attempt to just link to the thread I have already created. If this is insufficient for your needs dear Cassie Lang, let me know. I will be glad to repost what photos I have gathered thus far. More to come as I am going to try and take biweekly if not weekly photos for real scientific documentation.

Ah yes, Hugelkultur images, one of my favorite things to see and share!
My permission granted for use in the article.

I have over the years posted my progress pretty extensively with various hugelkultur systems.
Here's some links to those threads:

Here's a Hugelkultur project I helped construct for some friends this year - whom I've been hinting for a couple years.
Despite the location being less then ideal (partially in the woods, thus shady) they were very impressed with the potatoes they harvested from this bed!

These are from:

This small bed I constructed for a friend did amazingly well right from the start. Must've been the wood from the dead apple tree, which once stood were this bed is now.

This is not strictly a hugelbed but can work in an urban setting. It's my "Hugelplanters" I have iris, bluebells, fuschia, lobelia, petunia in most of them and I planted a few nasturtium seedlings in the central one-it went wild! I found these logs hollowed out in the forest and brought them home. I cut one horizontally in half and tacked wire mesh on the bases of the others and filled them all with compost. This is their second season and definitely much better now that they are saturated and stabilised. I watered them maybe once a week in the hot past of summer July/Aug but nothing else.

I am not an urban gardener but I do have a small backyard. Figured I'd send a few more pics of some small scale stuff.

I plant hops in horizontal hugels. They produced wonderfully in their first year!

Back patio hugelkultur. We dug a hole four feet deep and filled it with wood, leaves, manure, etc, and built the hugelkultur on top of it. Herb spiral built from scavenged cottonwood bark in front.

Here are my first hugelkultur mounds. I built them pretty quickly just to have a place to put some plants I dug out of my raised garden beds. I have various berry plants growing in them plus volunteers from my previous year's garden. They really need more soil...didn't have enough at the time to do it right.
