Image orientation issue in threads

Seems that some threads that originally had properly oriented pics in them (i.e., top is up, bottom is down, etc) now have pics that have flipped or rotated. Scroll down through these, for instance…

Annoying. And a week or so ago, those threads were displaying correctly. I recognize that it could just be some quirk with my browser (Firefox on MacBook, with OS 10.9.5). But since the phenomenon is new, I wonder if it's an issue affecting everyone these days here on Permies.

I've noticed the same thing. Also, when I click on the photos they open in a new window (because they are huge!) and they are right side up in the new window.

I'll continue to look into this.

Edit: Our webmaster is working on fixing this issue!

I had this problem last night as i was uploading photos. I thought it was an issue with my file, so i re-uploaded the images and they came out right. Maybe the software is grabbing some cell phone meta-data about phone orientation or something.

Any pattern to this glitch? Why do some pics twist around and other not?

I wasn't resizing my pics down to 700 which may be why mine happened. Not sure if this is the reason, but im spending my morning editing my pics.

Sometimes the answer is nothing

As far as I can see, the glitch (if it is that) still occurs. I suppose no one has been able to identify what it is?

here is an example:

The old algorithm had something in it that could figure out the original orientation. We need to make sure that is in the new algorithms.

Hmm... The issue has cropped up again.

I was checking in on a thread that I like to see what new post I might have missed, and found the image-orientation problem on several images Dale Hodgins had posted. You can see them on page 2 of this thread (scroll down a bit) https://permies.com/t/40/12412/projects#782716
