This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Nest.

In this Badge Bit, you will hang a shelf level.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
   - the shelf must be mounted to something secure
        - for example - studs, brick, masonry
        - not drywall
   - the shelf must be level (bubble centered on a level, not just between the lines)
   - must have at least two mounting points

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must provide proof of the following with pictures (or a video < 2 mins long):
   - before, during, and after of hanging a shelf level
   - show how it's attached to some structure
   - show that it is actually level

We were in dire need of more shelf-space in our kitchen. We do have lots of wall to hang.

Upfront I'd like to point out that not all walls have studs. We have pretty much only stone wall and a little bit of brick wall. Therefore we don't need to look for studs and can pretty much hang shelves anywhere. We don't even need to check for wiring because there's 0 wiring within the walls.

Therefore I'd like to request a change of the requirements:
- if you have wall studs, mount shelf to studs (describe how to find them)
- check for wiring and tubing inside the wall, avoid drilling or hammering at all cost (describe how to find them)

With that said, here's my submission for this BB (see attachments and their filenames)

Sometimes in painting, and in hanging shelves and pictures, you should not necessarily hang or paint to the line. A (professional) painters' trick is to work to your eye. Your eye sometimes sees things differently, then the actual "reality" of the situation. You might be slightly off from perfect level or perfect "cut", but it will seem more accurate, or true, when you look at it.

I hung this shelf in the boys' room. I used a stud finder. There are two hooks underneath for their school bags as you can see in the last pic (included that pic to show the sturdiness of the shelf).

This wall was framed within the last 4months and the studs are still exposed on the other side of the wall so it was easy to locate the two studs to hang the shelf, 16in apart. I repurposed and refinished the wood from my neighbor's garage with the same stain used for the baseboards. The half bath renovation is now complete! =)
