A long walk through the still tundra of western Montana this morning hoping to find evidence of lions, tigers and bears but just found some dumb ol' deer and moose.  The snow is still more than a foot with spots thicker than that and layers of ice all around.  There's definite signs it's warming up for the stay. It'll be a muddy mess of primordial spring soup with different challenges before we know it. Embrace the change, it's happening whether you want it or not - at least this one's warm and sunny.

If you don't have a pastry cutter and need biscuits..gotta cook them coconut rocks.
If all one has are chunks of coconut oil than this is the way they're melted on a wood burning stove top to be used in making biscuits.

It's been a long time, maybe never, since I saw a winter that stayed snow covered for two months solid.

Second attempt at salmon patties. Don't use too much oil in the pan kids, the salmon's got plenty.

It's been a day. Getting back from a half-craft holiday with a car full of water, batteries and food at 830 at night to live off grid is  how it works. Not bad, just different and it requires flexibility.  It will be a huge improvement when the well is installed and there's running water around here.  Not walking down an icey path carrying 70lbs of water would be an upgrade.  In the mean time, some DC puck lights installed in useful locations will have to suffice.

Hi Caleb, are you staying at the Abbey or Cooper Cabin? Is the well on the lab turned off for the winter? There's a spigot that was piped from the well to both wofatis, so unless the line froze or it's not a frost-free spigot, I would have thought water would be good.

Yeah technically your right Mark - there are hydrants that run to both locations but we weren't able to get the pump installed before winter. That's the only component holding it up.  Now that the roads are thawing out, we should be able to get back on it soon.

The forecast said it was going to be warm today but they were actually right for once!  Surprising how much resistance this snow is putting up but as much as we have, it could take another several days of this weather to melt it.

Btw I keep seeing chip-monks.  I just wana know who Charles is and what makes them so pious.....

Fun times! Did you ever get the chance to tune that piano? It's awesome that they have one at WL now. I'd be willing to order you a tuning kit off Amazon or something if you're interested.
