Reclaim old skills to create a resilient food system...
A Year in an Off-Grid Kitchen is a cookbook that shows you how to learn the essential kitchen skills that helped our ancestors to thrive in harsh times.
A Year in an Off-Grid Kitchen follows the seasons, so that you can learn one skill at a time while also finding recipe inspiration in seasonal local recipes that are designed to be cooked in everyday homestead life.
When the the panic buying, empty shelves, and restrictive rations hit earlier this year, it was not a problem for my family, because we knew these skills, and knew how to feed ourselves without the supermarket system. With the help of this book, you can learn these skills too.
Prosciutto ham and cheese. These foods are often taken for granted, or seen as too complicated to make at home, but are actually quite simple processes that this book can teach you.
It’s often intimidating to face learning all the skills we need for a future off the grid.
With A Year in an Off-Grid Kitchen, you can treat it as a self-paced homestead cooking course, or just pick the book up and learn something new whenever you like.
Kimchi. I share the easy fermenting recipes and techniques that are staples in my home, and the same ones that I sell to my market customers. I provide clear instructions that suit anyone from beginners to advanced cooks, one recipe tester said “This is the first ferment I've made that I felt like I could trust!”
The book...
Around 220 pages in length, 10.75” by 8.25” in size, the book is packed full with over 100 recipes to make, skills to learn, and tips and tricks to make real food cooking work in busy lifestyles, wherever you are.
The recipes are not just any recipes, but adaptable everyday ones that you’ll want to make over and over, using easily-found ingredients.
These recipes have been tested in many different kitchens, and will work on wood stoves as well as conventional electric and gas cookers. These are the recipes that fuel my homestead. I’ve included many variations and ingredient substitutions to help you make the recipes with whatever ingredients are on hand at the time.
The book is presented in full colour, with lots of full-page photos, plus smaller photos on some pages.
