Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo?

Every year I think about doing this but every November passes by and I don't do it. Anybody participating this year? I'd love to see more permaculture/homesteading fiction.

Ever tried an Alphasmart Neo for NaNo? Distraction free writing is the key.

Not this year. I've won once and tried 3-4 times. I can't write now... my brain is too tired.

I hope when my son gets old enough to learn to write he will be interested, then maybe we can write together!

I've never heard of it!

I think one of the reasons I've never participated is because I am a non-fiction writer. I can never seem to sit myself down and write from my imagination. I'd like to though.

Good for you for doing that much! I hear you about brain tiredness. This time of year is super busy getting ready for winter. It's hard to find the creative energy to put into a big project.

I've been doing NaNoWriMo for I think 13 years.  I've made it to 50K a bunch of times, one of them I finished and it was published in 2020, one is now finished and I'm looking for an agent and a publisher for it.  The first, Evolution Device, is a fantasy about magic and rock music in 1970s, the other is a mystery/police procedural involving environmentalism but not permaculture or anything.  Maybe that would be a good idea for the next one!

This NaNo I'm working on this month a supplement (not really a sequel but more like a prequel) to the first novel.  It's going to be a challenge because I've got eye surgery next week and I don't know how it'll affect my vision for a while.

I've done NaNo every year for more than a decade. Sorry I missed this thread. I was busy gearing up for NaNo and then somehow managed to actually win. Still working on the draft and hoping I can finish it without stalling out the way I usually do.

I got off to a good start the first week with 15K words. I thought I had a good chance to get my 50K this year, but nope. November was a tough month for me and I was starting to go crazy with overload, so I ruthlessly dumped projects and even obligations.  NaNoWriMo was the first to go, and not without regret. But it was the right thing to do for me.

Life sure isn't the same anymore.

I always participate, but not always with the aim of winning. In fact this year broke a nice, long losing streak for me. I'm still not sure how it happened.

I've added the month of April to my NaNo writing challenge schedule.  April is a good month for me to be writing because I get the taxes out of the way before then and keep my calendar clear so I have nothing else scheduled or planned.  Plus I'm on solar power so by April I've got more daylight for writing plus more sunlight for charging the batteries.  It turns out April is my best writing month, though I still do November as well.

I'll most likely be doing Camp in April. If not writing, I'll be editing/rewriting.

Surprisingly, I'm still writing. About 3/4 done with the draft I think. I haven't written like this for years. It's pretty cool.
