How much maple sap and syrup did you all get in 2023?

Dana gave us a report here:

https://permies.com/t/208042/#1765744

We are still running and have been for 2 weeks.  It is cold windy and cloudy today with no sap running.  We hope for another week or two.

Any body is welcome to tell us your general location and amounts you have gotten.  I think this will be great to see around the world what everyone gets.

Here is our boiler system at 11:45 Sunday night.

We are in central WI and have not even tapped yet. We are micro producers and got 10gal of syrup in 2022. Will tap in a week I think. One question is when boiling in a shack does't everything get sticky from the steam? We just boil on a cinder block setup outside.

Hi Michael. We have been boiling in this shack for 3 years now and have not had a problem with stickiness.  The sap we boil only seems to evaporate the steam and no sugar.  The roof will drip water if there is not enough wind to take out the steam.  Same thing when we boil sorghum in the fall.

Welcome to Permies Trevor!  That is great to hear you got that much syrup. The trees were producing well again yesterday for us.

We got a few gallons last year. Just made a small amount for our homestead use. I've got a tiny sugar shack to keep the snow, rain and leaves out of the pan. Makes a big difference after boiling off in the open!! I'm in northern Michigan.

We ended up going for 4 weeks this year!  We made 27 gallons of syrup.  Was a great year.

I think I've had my worst year ever in northern WI.  I tapped too early which might've allowed the trees to heal up the tap holes a bit.  It was warm in March but we had 2-3' of snow on the ground so the trees didn't drip when the weather was perfect for it.  Then we got 4 days of 75-85 degrees last week and they budded out fast.  I'm not sure if the season is over just yet (froze last night) but I'm dubious.

Only got 60 gallons of sap (1.625 gallons of syrup) from 45 trees.  So far...?  Normally we get 12 gallons of syrup.

I don't really know what I'm doing. But my taps have hardly produced anything -- like two gallons among three taps and I think the season is winding down even though we're still in the freezing at night thawing most days period. (We didn't get as warm as Mike did, but same basic pattern.)

Hold the phones...  I thought they stopped with the warm weather a week ago but the missus checked a bucket two days ago and it was overflowing?!?!?

Got the rig running and boiled hard for a few hours to get the fullest buckets less full.  Made 7 quarts and the trees have keep dripping.  With the current weather it looks like we might get two more days of sap and get another good boil in on Wednesday.

Likely still my worst year but not as bad...  Don't give up yet :)
