The hugels are done and the bird house is up!

The mulching and seeding for the new hugel berm took two hours...

Hanging a silly bird house took three hours.

Of course I was up 25 feet in the air on an extension ladder on a steep slope. And the silly bird house weights 20+lbs.

I cleaned up the dead branches around the trunk and mounted the bird house on cleats.

Finally I got a final weight for all the berries I collected yesterday, I'm drying all of them to store them long term.

Just a quick post today.

This week's Skip tracks focus on woodland care, foraging, and natural medicines.

I cut down two dead trees and cut them into firewood, then for the afternoon gathered lambs quarters for drying and sorrel for salad.

The night ended with a dinner of ferments, sourdough bread with butter, and kombucha.

BRK Post 124

Doing some little projects here, wrapping up some Skip projects.

I started the morning off with a chat with Brad about community and watched Pierre roast some coffee beans with his portable coffee roasting setup.

I finally did some maintenance on my hatchet. The head has been loosening up and wiggling up and off the handle.

I pulled the head off, took a bit of wood off so the head would sit lower and then put in an oak wedge plus the two original metal wedges. Much better.

I collected the lambs quarters from the dehydrator. It is still vibrant and green but crisp and brittle. The flavor has concentrated too.

I'd like to thank Greg for his massive shipment of dried fruit! It was addressed to Nine, but she willed it to Lara and it's been split up. Everybody enjoyed them. Thanks again Greg!

I finished off the day with some sourdough bread prep with Pierre. He walked me through what he likes to do and prepped two breads. A one with kamut and another with einkorn.

Bird in the High Castle. That's funny!

We need a good Phil K. Dick inspired movie. That does not get all weird just to bring Harrison Ford back to the screen.

BRK Post 125

Today's Skip events were a split between splitting wood and making pickled beets.

I split nearly a face cord of wood before lunch and stacked it up next to the Red Cabin. I was nice to get some physical work done after weeks of very little.

After lunch I got to water bath can for the first time. We had a bunch of beets to use up and fresh thyme in the garden. So that's what went in the jar.

One last thing. I got a very nice card from Sandy. Thanks Sandy, I'll keep posting. Let me know if you are interested in seeing anything here in specific.
